Update on America

  1. As some of you know, over the past few days I've been around America. Basically, I went from San Diego, Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, Saw hoover dam, and now I'm in LA, getting my plane home tomorrow. I've been about 2 weeks here, and all I have to say on America is:
    • It's hot
    • VERY hot
    • There's about 20x more junk food than in England, and Butterfinger and Cheetos are divine.
    • I understand why so many people are obese here with this great junk food and alcohol.
    • People are a lot more welcoming in shops (As in, the employees greet you and ask you how you are)
    • The Grand Canyon is fucking HUGE
    • Long periods of time driving on a straight road in a desert is about as much fun as listening to Britney Spears on repeat
If there are any Americans that have been to Britain, you should notice the huge difference.
Eh, at least I have somewhere to post about this.

  2. I've heard this before from a regular customer I have who's english. I've never been to England, so I don't know, but do a lot of retail stores there give customer service training? Is it a big part of retail?

Cuz here, the first thing you do at a new job is basically the customer service guidelines... so since this is the only employment situation I know, I'm kinda confused as to what customer service is elsewhere.

Hehe, it's one of my favorite things in the world. Drivin long distance in a straight line basically, with nothing but you, the road, and some awesome music. So awesome!

But i hope you are enjoying your stay!! The Grand Canyon is an amazing natural wonder to see.

  3. me too. whats it like in england dude?

  4. I too am going for a trip to Arizona, to see the Grand Canyon coincidentally.

I've done a little travelling in the U.S. and i see what you mean.

I find americans, on average more agressive and... well rude, than the average canadian. Obviously there are many acceptions to this.

Not to mention the vast majority of the Americans i have met knew next to nothing about Canada. They treat you like a foreigner, and though you do come from a different country, our cultures are so insignificantly different.

Hell, we share such a huge amount of products, advritisers, entertainment, political ideals and moral values in common.

I've never been as far south as Arizona though, I'm really excited. I hear the grand canyon is amazing. I can't wait for the hike, It's more than 6 months away and im already planning out my pack in my mind. :p

  5. Awww, you're comin to visit me ^_^

  6. You can have the grand canyon if you take our president, sound fair?

  7. foreigners.....:) jk lol

  8. No we're not fat because of all the junk food per se, we're fat because you get a free bag of Cheetos with every gun purchase and free alcohol with ever box of ammo. (On Friday and Saturday nights we have specials but you have to ask for the body bags by name.)

Fuck that, the Grand Canyon is worth far more than a Billion Presidents named Bush covered in platinum. You can have him at no additional cost with a purchase of a bag of Cheetos and to sweeten the deal we'll even throw in a side order of Dick Cheney smothered in red tape.

  9. The feeling is mutual.

    Stephen Harper is bad enough

    Besides we have the Rockies.

  10. Our Rockies are better than your Rockies!

  11. WTF ReeferMadness how is this post rude? Why did you -rep me for that? ROFL...

  12. America! "Fuck Yeah!"

  13. Yeah lets not have those damn canadians have any national pride, not even for a second!

  14. We never said our igloo's were better!!!!! hah :p

  15. I have to say, i'm REALLY unimpressed by this kind of garbage.

I don't reduce your country's culture to mere stereotypes, even as a joke.

  16. haha, fine, I apologize to you specifically, and won't do it directed towards you again. But I'll never stop, because it's all in good fun and have some fun convo's with some good Canadian friends of mine. But meh...

  17. You need to understand that America is huge. Very Very big. Seeing Arizona and California would seem like a different country after you visiting New England or the South East.

Did you smoke any American pot?

  18. Oh, Rasta, relax a bit, bro! Learn to take a few for the team.

I'll open myself up to any national stereotypes... Because yes, they are funny, and true most of the time.

I've got a deep respect for you, but maybe you should relax a little.

  19. Yeas, because it's totally a fact that the vast majority of us canadians drive dog sleds and live in igloos.

That stereotype isnt about culture in canada but rather a mockery of the intrepid american ignorance.

I am relaxed man, i'm blazed out of my mind. Doesn't change the fact that it pisses me off when people shit-talk my country like that. I don't care if it is just a joke.

I love my country so much, and when you refuse to take it seriously in any context then of course i'll get pissed off.

This place is my home man, you don't say talk shit about your buddy's home.

  20. I never encouraged talking shit about someone's home, but I did encourage being able to be loose and take a joke... Everbody is ignorant in one respect or another, and Americans are ignorant about Canada, I guess.

By the way, and with all due respect, "intrepid american ignorance" is a stereotype... And can be offensive towards Americans, depending on how you look at it.

edit- you'll find that rasta's quote on me is different from this post, because i edited it, simply to tweak it.
