Untreated Ear infection

Discussion in 'General' started by meatbag420, Dec 25, 2008.

  1. I cant afford to see a doctor right now, and the free clinic is not open (praying it is on friday and that i can be seen by them). My right ear has been hurting like hell, sharp pain in the inner ear and a lot of pressure while the past two days I have noticed some dizziness but its not throwing me off balance. It's possible it may be something else but I'm pretty sure its an ear infection. Has been bothering me for the past 4 days.

Have any of you had ear infections you didnt get anti-biotics for? do they generally resolve on their own over time? What home remidies have you guys tried? I heard cleaning the ear with a que tip diped in paroxide helps.

I quit smoking cigarettes and I cant afford bud right now but if a friend wants to smoke me out I may be tempted. How bad could smoking bud affect my problem? I'm asking on grasscity since this question would make my post on health forums look rediculous and not taken seriously and also cause other health forums I have asked on has not goten any response at all. maybe some luck here.

All I can think to do is keep taking vitamin C twice a day while using a hot compress. If it wasnt for 800mg ibuprofen I dont know what the hell I would do.

  2. The infection will probably go away over time (especially with the vitamin C), but you'll have to threw a few tough weeks or even months of intense pain. I reccomend seeking medical attention asap.

  3. i couldnt imagine stickin a Qtip in my ear with one of those..:eek:

    hurts like hell.
I wouldnt take any risks until you DO get checked out.. but I was on antibiotics for a while due to an infection, and i never quit smoking.
    Im fine.;)

  4. make sure you see that doctor. an infection can spread, and it can kill you if not treated properly.

  5. Sometimes laying your head on a warm heating pad can help, and I think there are ear drops you can purchase.

  6. when i was a baby, i had to get tubes put in my ears, and ever sense, at least 1 time a year i get some knarly ear infections.

its all good, usually i get meds for it, but there have been times where i didnt, they fade in time.....so yeah, after a while if you dont get seen by doc it will go away, but its going to hurt like fuck.

so, if at all possible i recommend getting some meds.

  7. Sounds like an ear infection mate. Dizzyness can definitely mean somethins wacky with your inner ear.

  8. I got an ear infection at the very end of August. I got water in my left ear, thought it would heal over time.

    It didn't.

I was given ear drops by a doctor, but I was careless and didn't use them like I should have. Two more doctors appointmens and 200 bucks later, I still have it. Yes that's right, I've had this ear infection for FOUR months. My left ear now gets crusty shit (maybe puss, no clue) and it sucks because I have a problem with peeling shit like that and can't stop.

I think it somehow got to my right ear. I had to buy a home flush kit and flush my ears, it worked.... for a day. I'm practically deaf in my left ear. My right ear is gonna be shit again until whatever builds up and I flush it out. I am going to an ear nose throat specialist in January sometime to get this bitch treated once and for all.

As selfish as my post is, learn from it. Try and get it treated ASAP. If the doctor gives you ear drops, and you don't like ear drops, take it like a man and use them. Learn from my stupidity.

  9. I've had a ear infection for a few weeks now and its finally starting to go away.

  10. there r

    and they help

just call up walgreens or safeway or whoever is closest and see if they have any

  11. Thanks for the responses.

That worries me, months of this would be hell. I have read on a few different websites that anti biotics don't always work and it could take more then 1 visit until i find what works, It wont be so bad if i can be seen at a free clinic but if they reject me I'm just going to spend the $70+ bill it is to see the doctor (not counting the price of meds) either way it'll be until friday at best that I can make an appointment.

Best chance I have is it will resolve itself in the next few days, I saw on a couple sites that say It's possible to clear up in a week on its own but with my luck it wont. Worst things i heard can happen is the infection spreading and affecting my brain (sounds fucked up) or getting into my blood which will kill me... not that im really stressing out about death from this but fuck, its hard to think about anything else while my ear's this fucked up.

  12. Hydrogen peroxide clears it up and gets rid of wax
if you use that i'd squeeze it from a cottonball into your ear instead of using a q-tip

  13. I just started looking at Hydrogen peroxide online, I had no idea all the health uses for it (used against cancer!), but only found a small comment of using drops of peroxide in the ear to fight infections. I have to leave right now and wont be back on my computer for a little while, if anyone is bored enough to do a little research for me and find a legit site stating the use of peroxide for ear infections it would be greatly appreciated.

    peace

  14. Peroxide loosens up ear wax. I heard mixing rubbing alcohol and white vinegar works as well from the doctor and lots of online comments. alcohol dries out the ear, and I THINK the vinegar loosens the wax.

The third time I went to the doctor he said both of my ears were clogged. He flushed them out using warm water and peroxide. Works instantly. He had the water and peroxide in a spray bottle with a special head on it (looked kind of like a satellite dish). He had me hold a cup over my ear so the wax/whatever it was wouldn't go all over the place. It was pretty gnarly to look in that cup, but my ear was fine. My left ear, however, was still not good. He flushed some shit out but there was something he couldn't get out, after like eight tries. He told me that either the the alcohol/vinegar or warm water/peroxide mixes are alright.

I recommend you see a doctor. It's your best and safest bet even if it does cost you 70 bucks without the meds.

Note: the shit that came out of my ear was a nasty green color, kind of like mucus. It was very slimey as well. I just thought that info could possibly help you.

    Good luck man.

  15. I have to wait until tomorrow, does anyone know how much ear infection medicine/antibiotics might cost me? im trying to google it but cant get any useful info. I'm just going to go to the doctors tomorrow and hope the bill isnt to bad, that bill i should be able to pay later but the meds i have to pay for upfront after i get a prescription. I just got a visa gift card which i plan to use to pay for the meds but im not sure if i have enough, hopefully its not more then $30.

  16. when I had an ear infectinon, I didn't do anything, until I felt pain everytime I swallowed, and then I went to see a doctor. The infection spread to my throat and I also severed, or ruptured my ear drum... So, if your throat starts to hurt, you'd better see that doctor.

  17. Yeah, im sure its spreading to my left ear now, feels sore but im not really sure. When it started in my right ear it came on quick in a couple hours, but lately i have noticed my left ear being sore. its doesn't feel like there's any pressure so im really hopeing it hasnt spread.

I'm just going to visit the doctor tomorrow but im trying to get an idea before hand how much the anti biotics will cost me. Have any of you guys had to pay for anti biotics w/o health insureance?

Dude SEE A DOCTOR and do it NOW!

I live in INDIANA where the weather is different every damn day. I get ear infections almost every winter. My ear drums have popped so many times that the pain is almost bearable now.

You must see a doctor and they will give you strong antibiotics. Take them and some very strong Ibuprofen and it will go away with in a couple of days.

I recommend that you do NOT smoke anything. Weed can make you feel better possibly but it depends of how bad your infection is and how much it has spread to your throat and lungs. Coughing with an ear infection FUCKING HURTS!

Take the previous advice and go see a doctor. You will be glad you did. If you do not the infection may spread or take longer to run its course than otherwise would have been the case.
