I know at least some of you have a car that, by today's standards, is probably a piece of shit, ugly and just plain uncool... but you still fucking love it. Let's see em. I'll start with this one: Omni GLHS (Goes Like Hell S'more) Wicked ugly, but wicked fast (for the time). Still great cars to mod in the right hands. I used to drive an 90 base model Omni. Handled like it was on rails, though it took some coaxing to get to speed. Paid 80$ for it, and it started every time. Had it until some bitch rear ended me without even so much as hitting the brakes. Luckily, the funky rear bumper design kept the hatch glass from breaking and just crumpled in the paneling. Still totaled Got 1200 for it out of insurance though.
AMC Pacer Id put a Turbo ls2 in it and make it a drag car themed around waynes world. Waynes World, Party ON!.
In an article in AutoWeek when that car came out, Carol Shelby said GLHS stands for "Goes like hell squared". Why that wouldn't make is GLH^2 is beyond me. Maybe he realized this and changed his mind. And really the GLH is probably just Mopar marketing mumbo-jumbo and the S stands for Shelby. Regardless. Awesome car. I almost bought a regular GLH Turbo back in 1991. I also test drove a Shadow CSX-VNT. A used rental car with the Shelby turbo drivetrain and an experimental variable nozzle turbo. At the time, it was just a cheap used car (and a used RENTAL car at that) and I liked the Starion I bought better, but today that CSX-VNT is a very rare, very valuable car. These are rare because they were not sold to the public. They were all leased to Thrifty Car Rental so that Dodge could get them back when the lease was over and see how the experimental turbo was holding up to daily abuse. 1988 Shelby CSX-T My current dream: 1972 Nissan KB110 AKA Datsun 1200 Coupe. One of the lightest front engine, RWD cars ever sold in the US (the only lighter cars being a handful of British Roadster and maybe a Fiat sedan or two). ~1600lbs, a whopping 60hp out of the stock 1200cc pushrod I4. So it's slow. But damn, it's pretty. And slow can be overcome. Pictures are deceiving. It looks like something maybe 1965 Mustang sized (looks a lot like an old Mustang from various angles) but it's actually within 1" in length to a first gen Miata. So it's TINY. I've got a friend that wants to trade a sweet Apple Green unmolested 1972 Coupe for my vintage Vespa scooter. But I'll have to schlep the Vespa 1200 miles and haul the Datsun back home.
you know what im talking about unwise...but to most they have no clue so to the populous is pretty unorthodox
I'd do a lot of bad things for that car, haha. I have a knack for spotting random old 6 series' from a mile away.
Hm, an ex and I used to rally in a Matra-Simca Bagheera. The Matra murena just doesn't cut it IMHO. The TVR Vixen is also a good choice, I had a 73, last year made. My personal droolicious car would be an Jensen FF. I learned to drive in 2 cars, a Ferrari and a 1974 Chrysler New Yorker. That sort of means I can drive in first gear, and 5th gear *really fast* and I can parallel park a freaking tank pretty much anywhere. Until I got rid of most of them, we collected antique VWs, At one time we had a 71 van, a 74 beetle, a 64 squareback and a 58 beetle. We still have a project car, a 1974 Opel family sedan that for the longest time was one of the last hundred or so still legally registered, insured and running, but it developed issues with body rust. I hate to admit, we are thinking of just selling her for parts. I am not really physically able to make the body panels any longer=(
The Escort Cosworth is definitely a favorite of mine as well. Too bad we'll never get them here in the US
DMC DeLorean, possibly one of the sickest cars ever created IMO......i'd be willing to drop some serious dollars for a flux capacitor option.
