I know theres all kinds of Indie Appriciation threads but most of that music is not what I'm into. I really want to get more into the new underground rock scene but I don't know where to start. I know a few great bands but I want more. I know pretty much everything there is to know about rock from the beggining to the end of grunge then my knowledge becomes more sparse because I sort of gave up on music at around 2000 and just got back into it about 3 years ago. I'll post some of the underground and indie bands I know of and hopefully some people will expand. Please don't delete this as I said I know theres threads similar to this but not specific enough for me. Nice, I've never heard Minus the Bear but I've heard alot about them just never took the intensive to actually listen. That first video was intrinsic and the music is really cool. Haven't listened to freak Kitchen until now either. Frusiante's stuff is pretty amazing although at times its pretty depressing. I think that may be the point haha. Matthew Bellamy is a musical genius. I haven't found many who agree with me but what he does is so out of the box.

Props on Umphrey's ... I've been stuck on their song 1348 for a while. Here's a few relatively new bands that I'm following. Thought I'd share a few obscure choices that are making noise underground basically. Gogol Bordello - These guys are becoming known here in the US for their intense shows as well as their unique sound. Their Tool influence is apparent, amongst others. Just got started and have 2 albums out. Fresh. I hear influences from across a wide range, and I can't get enough of their first album. Thumbs up + rep for posting my favorite band Minus the Bear. I'm dying to go see them next month in SF. Hopefully I'll get to go.
I hate to be a buzzkill but the indie music appreciation thread exists and has most of these songs/artists already in it.....
But it also has alot of electronic and other strange genres that I don't dig so I made an indie rock thread. So this is just more specified to guitar-centric music. I know about the other thread as I said in my initial post, but I think this can stand alone. The thread seems to be a hit so I'm just gonna keep it up unless of course it gets deleted which would make me a very sad panda but life would go on as normal.

The drummer for The Walkmen is really intense, one of the many reasons I dig this band. I regret not seeing them and the Helio Sequence when they were around. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7h1Ob3fvGII]YouTube - The Walkmen - Woe Is Me (Live on KEXP)[/ame] [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hF9z0G3Se8E&feature=channel]YouTube - The Walkmen - Juveniles (Live on KEXP)[/ame] Also, I fucking love KEXP. So glad it's a hometown radio station. I'm sure there are a lot of stations similar, but KEXP is just... spectacular. The in studios are great too. Lastly, OP, I was going to say that all those songs you posted also belonged in the Appreciation thread, but saw that you said: One reason I wasn't around the Appreciation thread when those genres came in. Edit: I was around then, but I wasn't posting that genre. I actually tried posting the opposite, ha.
