  1. Hello, I've been offline for 3 months due to countless problems with my internet and now i've come up against another one

My internet is connected (according to my ISP & Gateway) but I still can't connect to the internet because it can't connect to the DNS

    Hardware: 2wire 2700 HG-B

Anyone got any ideas on how to sort this out? if you need anymore information just ask and ill get it for yoo.

    Thanks

  4. Restart your modem and router. You could also try to flush the DNS by using the command "ipconfig /flushdns" without parentheses.

  5. you have to press the button on the back of the router that says reset.

    that'll reset your DNS.

How do you know that DNS is the only problem? Can you browse to websites based on their IP address?

Click the Start button, type ncpa.cpl then press enter.

Right click on Local Area Connection and go to properties. Click Internet Protocol Version 4 and go to properties.

Make sure to select the radio buttons that say "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically". Click OK to all the windows and try again.

If both of these are already selected, let me know and we can go from there.

The ipconfig /flushdns command that SmokeALot mentioned is also a great way to troubleshoot DNS issues. It is also a good idea to run netsh int ip delete arpcache at the same time.

  7. Tried everything stated above and nothing has changed, I know this is a DNS issue because I have tested everything else and nothing has worked.

Usually such issues can be traced back to the ISP. Just had the same problem last Sunday night. Called customer support monday morning, and I got to know they've had some problems regarding a service upgrade at the local central which left quite a few customers unable to connect. Was fixed for me within 15 minutes after the trouble ticked got registered.

  9. So you can browse to websites using an IP address instead of the domain name?

  10. Just use Google's DNS severs man

They're 8.8.4.4 and 8.8.8.8, very very easy to remember but they never gave me problems like my ISPs did.
