So my friend was trying to decide what approach to take on the soil since all of his babies passed due to poor conditions. He was reading somewhere that the ideal soil is a mixture of 1/3 perlite/vermiculite , 1/3 dolomite, and 1/3 organic soil. So..... he was thinking about picking up a bag of Foxfarm soil but was curious how to improve upon it. He is going to start the seedlings in jiffycubes and then transplant when roots show... I believe fox farm has nutes in it so he figured he wouldn't need to fert for 3 weeks or so after transplanting. Any opinions on the ideal soil combo?
i use normal no nut added walmart potting soil $1.62 a 40 pound bag. 3 parts soil 1 part worm castings 1 part peat moss and 1 part perlite and 1/2 part wood ash. every things easy to get and dont cost me $20 for a 10 pound bag
i have read many places that 1/3 perlite, 1/3 vermiculite, 1/3 peat moss is good, actually about to try that mixture out myself..
How many parts to the soil? Also, do you think it would be necessary to add dolomite or would that solution already keep the PH in check?
