UK newbie grower - old smoker

Hi all.
First time I have signed to a site like this!
Been smoking for years, but this is the first time I am growing.
I have a decent size built in wardrobe in my bedroom I want to convert to a growing room.
Problem is - I know very little of growing.
I have a (about) 5 inch plant on my bedroom window sill.
I started off putting the seeds in a plastic wine glass with tissue and timid water on the window sill in the summer sun.
Transfered to a small planting container, still keeping them in the window sill, with bedroom window shut.
Been using garden soil. Since reading on this site, I relise now, I am making a mistake.
Re- potted today in a larger pot and put back on window sill, with garden soil.
Will get some decent soil this week and re pot.

Very skint, next to poor. Thats why I want to grow.

I thought I would line the bedroom cupboard with tin foil and put up a couple of three 100w bulbs and small fan.

I started off with two seeds. These came from weed I bought. Thought I would just chuck them in some wet tissue and see what happens, kind of situation.

One plant died at 3 inches, got knocked by cat on windowsil.

The surviving plant had long stem, since re potted to first lower leaves. Leaves at top are a bit smelly, nice and green and starting to bush.


Any really cheap and cheerful equipment set up tips. Like tin foil linning - is it just as good.

I water much less in the actual soil, because fine spraying the leaves and stem seem to be working better.
