Ugh, bud rot. I'm very sad.

  1. Oh man, I just harvested two plants (I have another post here with a few photos) of Cherry Bomb from Bombseeds.

I had these two plants growing and one WAY outperformed the other, in both veg and flower.

I noticed some whispy, white hairy patches on the better plant. I crack open the biggest cola and sure enough, little infectious looking brown dots (spores) all through the inside. I continue to check buds, cracking open one after the other, and seeing this DISEASE looking shit in all of the largest buds. I looked at it under a microscope, and the white stuff looks like cotton fiber, and inside are small, round, dark spores.

I have never had bud rot and have been at this nearly 10 years. This blows. I think I've lost nearly a pound from this harvest, and I didn't really like the smaller plant but at least it was healthy.

The buds on the mostly-lost plant were BEAUTIFUL. Sparkly, smelly, and meaty. And I had to chuck them in a bucket. Sooo sad. Please grieve with me. This is not my week. PXL_20230824_035608404.jpg PXL_20230824_032858586.jpg

  2. Ventilation, my first hydro dwc plant was a basic pink kush, had buds the size of full size beer cans and yeah that was painful to find.

Then on I always had a fan blowing air up through the canopy to prevent such a tragedy.

  3. You can save most the bud, I would cut all the bud rot off and with all the buds left without any bud rot on, water cure, its mean to be a safe way to dry and cure buds with bud rot, it might be worth a go.

  4. i lost a couple of colas off two plants to Bud rot this year ,noticed a sugar leaf that didnt look right gave it a pull and the bud just fell away ,,,i hate bud rot .i had good ventilation .,and dehumidify and fan etc ,, ..mac,

  5. The strange thing is, it doesn't look bad. The buds are mostly green, not black/squishy and eaten by the fungus.

I think it didn't progress much, but it does seem to be all over. When I crack it open, just whispy white hairs in spots and you can see small dark specks throughout.

All of the colas seem to have at least some of this going on.

  7. Mate I feel you, as I gained in skill and starting cropping decent colas instead of popcorn and larf, I also screw up the transition of trying to dry monster colas and big buds the way I was doing small plants or lower branches.

I've got it worked out now but sometimes I've had to trim down the largest buds or colas into 2 or more chunks just to keep them from molding, what helped me a lot was finally dropping some coin a dedicated heat pumps / AC for my drying areas to keep things generally too cold for mold growth (like 60-65 F and around 50-55% RH).

Since I also always seemed to get rot on my most impressive and largest buds, I tried trimming away some (also related the white spiderweb mold you can get if you put them in cure jars too wet or not enough burping) and still smoking on it, and for me (an admitted dumbass in many areas) it was a hit or miss process, I thought I got it all but ended up with a mild lung infection and I had to take antibiotics for a week or so to get rid of, was not fun, had a dry and burning throat for awhile.

Again, mostly my own dumbass fault, but do use care if you try to cut out and use any buds that you know or suspect had rot or microbial growth

  9. save her:
first cover with plastic bag, gently extract the plant,
careful spores will drip to other buds,
    nip of the bud
and dip to a dish of warm water and 2-3 tablespoons of bleach
once the done dip to a dish of clean water to wash of the bleach
note the fungi turns to snot
    allow to dry
    pick out the dead fungi
    check careful with your scope

    good luck

  10. Edited. I have seen commercial growers . Not suggested ever my opinion i wont do it moldy bud . . Use butane to cut the plants to form shatter . They ley it dry . Grind it up with coffee bean grinders . Pack it into there extraction tubes . Spray it . Out comes the end result . Throw away the flower. Now i asked why not use co2 what we used cant get any more organic then that . Co2 extraction is the best . How all organic coffees are DECAFANATED as well . They said bla bla bla and bla bla bla butane will kill molds . I call bs. But they sold it all no issues . Im talking power mold . Some bud rots inside . To grind or not to grind . Personally i think grinding it will get every nook and cranny out better then solid . Edited always obey laws im not suggesting anything . Butane extractions is A SERIOUS HAZARD . i heard of people blowing up there houses businesses . Use the wrong butane its poison .

  11. See, that's what is weird. There isn't really any dead/black/damaged bud. But, there are cotton-looking fibers on the outside, and some of those nasty looking black dots on the inside of the buds. Some discoloration but not everywhere.
