Types of inline duct fan?

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by the420herbalist, Jul 25, 2019.

  1. Hi, I have a few choices of inline duct fan, but I am not sure which will work and is good in a slightly tight budget. These are the two types I plan to choose one.

    fan2

    fan1
I have seen the 3rd type which i think its the most suitable / common which is the centrifugral inline fan? But that is really wayyy to expensive. Can either of the two above be able to do the same job?

Thanks for the advice in advice.

  2. Here you go -

  3. No 1 just looks like a helper fan. No 2 will actually move air, but I bet it's noisy.

  4. how about the third i mention which is the centrigural? its the best with least noise?

  5. They all blow air, and they are rated by Cubic Feet Per Minute (CFM). Cubic feet is width x height x length. Total cubic feet should be moved one times per minute minimum and 3 max per minute. The difference in fans is quality of components or noise level. The inline fan is designed to be connected to the filter and pulls air through the carbon filter and exhausts it. I only use my carbon fan/filter for aroma control and it has no exhaust outside the room and recirculates air in the room over and over. I use tradtional fans for air circulation for plants.
The quietest fan I have found is the a/c infinity s4. It can be run below audible, although at that speed the airflow through a filter is unnoticiable, but if you are only using the inline carbon fan/filter for odor, that is sometimes all you need.

  6. I think talkative is right, but your needs vary depending if you're growing in a tent in a large room or tent small room etc and your lights. I had success with just axial fan (nr1) stuck inside a insulated duct connected to a filter and vent outside the room... It worked with 300w's of CFL's, I don't think it would be able to handle MH/HPS. I'd recommend buying (nr.2) a/c infinity s4 looked really awesome with it's own dimmer. I wouldn't rush it, it sucks if you stress about sound levels, look up guides around for building silencer box and ways to silence it.

  7. I have a helper fan that looks just like #1.
    Its speed can't be controlled.

  8. okay thanks. my grow tent should be about 40 cubic feet. I guess a 4' inline fan is sufficient?

  9. does it do the job most importantly? Lol!

  10. I think it would be a measurement of 5' x 2' x 4' sooo i guess a 4' inline fan with 4' carbon filter would be sufficient?

  11. I don't use it because of lack of speed control, but it does work.
    It was an accidental purchase.

  12. yes, anything with a rating of 40 to 120 will be enough. You do not need a special fan to start a grow. The fan is a good item to make a final more informed decision later. The first and foremost decision is the light. Everything revolves around the light. The light will determine your cooling/ventilation and size needs. Pick out a qb kit you like, then it will all go easy after that.

  13. I already had my lights prepare. Im using LED lights. Roughly 2-3 lights per plant. I have to check on the watts though..

  14. right, do a lot of research on lights. The other stuff can be put together from stuff around the house and walmart. Watts alone is not enough, you also need good plant growing spectrum. Plants don't need much to grow, but cannabis needs much to flower. A good fan wont make you happy if it is blowing on low light plants.

  15. how do u determine if the spectrum is good? isn't all the LEDs are the same as in its either pink / blue colour?

  16. No.
Quantum boards give you a nice 'daylight' spectrum and with Samsung's diodes, are more efficient than standard LED lights.
They are more expensive but definitely worth it.

  18. Fair enough.

  19. 3x a minute is definetly not the max. I've ran much higher at times to solve heat or humidity problems without any issue. I would consider 3x as a good average to shoot for.

  20. yeah guidlines are 1 to 3 when buying so you don't buy more than you need. My first fan was a 6 inch max pro for 72 cubic feet. It was definately over 5 even on the low speed. Maybe 10 on jet engine speed.
