Two seedlings, one cup

Discussion in 'Sick Plants and Problems' started by MikeyMike87, Aug 2, 2018.

  1. Okay so my distracted self accidentally planted two seeds in one party cup. They both just sprouted. I just wanted to hear any thoughts or solutions without destroying the seedlings if it's possible? Or am I SOL

  2. move one immediately and cross your fingers.

  3. Let ir grow for about a week or so then try moving it.. itll have a lil more established root system to it than it does when it just pops up

  4. Separate the seedlings immediately. You can run them under gentle water, rinse the meduim away. Best of luck!

  5. Are you sure that you planted two seeds? Occasionally, a seed will produce "twins". If this is the case, leave them alone! Plants recognize their relatives and the closer they are related, the better they get along! In the case of identical twins, they are, in effect, the same plant and will not "fight".

This, however, does not rule out one twin being the "weak sister". When this happens, you may want to kill the weaker twin, or you can just let it grow. Your choice. I just leave them and train them to grow apart- one staked to the right side of the (18 gallon) tub and one to the left side, so they both get light. The "weak sister" usually does not produce as much as the strong one, but for me, more is better! :GettingStoned:

If you decide to separate them, I would use a variation of what HookahsGarden suggested, but rather than running water, I'd fill a bucket and gently separate them underwater. I would also have the pots ready and waiting so the roots are exposed to air for the shortest time, and then "water them in" well.
