Turning lights off to simulate cloud cover and save electricity?

Discussion in 'Lighting' started by snappahead, Jun 21, 2017.

  1. So I was watching some youtube videos and this seems like a legit idea.

I was thinking it should be even better (closer simulation to clouds) if you only turned off say half of your lights for the "cloud periods"

Has anyone ever played around with this idea? Does this idea have a common name?

    Thanks

  2. Its called the Gas lantern routine.

It does not simulate cloud cover. Its still light enough for plants to grow on a cloudy day. It just interrupts the dark cycle.

It works from everything I've read on it but doesn't get the growth rate of a longer lights on.

  3. I've seen growmow5e implement a dimmed start and end, but for during the day cycle it seems redundant
