Turn down meditation=turn down solace.

Discussion in 'Religion, Beliefs and Spirituality' started by simmer, Jan 22, 2010.

  1. Why do so many people turn down meditation. or don't take it seriously?

    It's so fucking good.
    Turning down that inner chatter.
    Forgeting your gratuitous wants.

Focusing on what matters, by focusing on nothing.

    Word.

Seriously though, meditation has helped me so much. Even way back when in 8 grade.

    1) I'm more content with what I have.

    2) I keep calm when everyone else freaks out.

    3) Death, does not intimidate me.

What more could you ask for? Especially after effect number one.;)

I submit to you people of GC that turning down meditation is like turning down help/peace of mind/serenity/contentment.

Then again. People are pretty stupid

  2. ^^Genius. I think the same thing almost everyday.

    Peace and love :)

  3. Alright man guess who is gettin some rep?

    You is! :D

  4. you must be super smart

  5. Is that sarcasm?

Hard to tell on the internet man.

buut Nah. I'm not smart. Not by a long shot.

    I'm just super logical.

I take the information I do know.
Mull it over in mah old tinker.
and shit out the most logical position/course of action! :gc_rocks:

  6. there is a whole world full of potential man. focusing on nothing is what matters? i have loved ones who enjoy conversation. i have nothing against meditation and i feel it's beneficial but i don't hold it above love of life.

Who ever said that I held it above life?

    Not I.

I'm content with life. Much More so than if I went around chasing, superficial shit. Or thinking about shit that didn't matter.

Meditation helps you focus on living, don't ya know?

    You do now. ;)

Speaking of meditation, this reminds me of the time I was at wendy's. I was with my friends and I was spacing out.
Suddenly this man yelled FUCK YOU!!!
needless to say, everyone shat in the icebox.
    True story.
Worst near death experience I had.

If you don't get that ^^ then your loss bro

btw, I never said focusing on nothing is most important. I'm saying that the average, untrained mind is full of stuff called "inner chatter" one of the goals of meditation is for you to reign control of your inner chatter. Basically, controlling your mind in a way I assume you didn't know was possible.
    Read up on it dude.

There's a great sticky on this forum aaaaalll about meditation. :)

the bold must have thrown me off. you know what they say about assuming:rolleyes:

you must be a step ahead of humanity having figured all this out on your own.

i'm not trying to be a jerk here man, it's just that imo you are coming off as a bit pompous suggesting that anyone who doesn't meditate is stupid and materialistic. meditation is not the only way.

  9. Meditation is awesome, and some overtone chanting doesn't hurt while you're at it.

I know what you mean though, there will be times when everyone is bugging out, and I will be the only one all calm and shit.
It's like everyone is running around with no head or something?

  10. Yes we should soak in the world around us. But we should not get caught up in the culture that creates this planet. Because it is important to let your mind free, and how can your mind be free if it is conforming to a society of hate and stupidity that we live in today. By thinking of nothing, it allows you to escape from the ridiculous television shows, religious cults, the news agencies, government corruption, racism, etc... that fill our everyday lives. Meditation is merely a bridge leading our consciousness into another world free from the plagued planet we live in today. :smoking:

  11. Threads like this are the reason I love coming to GC:)
Meditation can be a truly amazing tool to inner peace, eternal happiness, and self discovery if you allow it.

  12. You're absolutely right. Everytime we meditate together (which we need to do more often) it's insanely beneficial. I remember the first time I felt like a whole new person. i love you.

I know personally I'd like to meditate more, but I prefer it 10000x more when I'm high. And because of my certain living situation it is impossible for me to smoke at home (which is why i'm planning on getting a vaporizer) so a lot of the times I have some opportunity, but I know i'd get so much more out of it if I was high.

If that makes sense. I'm not saying I can't do it while not high..but I get very restless and impatient. But when I'm high I'm soo much more able to relax and reap the full benefits.

    Peace.Love.Unity.Respect.

***FOR ME*** its actually harder to try and meditate when im high, my mind is very active and its hard for me to stop thinking. its easier to meditate when im sober. i can enter that inner essence much more easily without constant mental projection. for some reason when im high i just think way too much, and thinking will get u nowhere when it comes down to meditation.

again this is ME, not making a generalization or anything. with that said i would love some tips on meditating from the people who smoke every once in a while and actually get like high off one hit, not to the daily stoner that functions high.

  14. You mean like singing two different pitches at once?

How the hell can you do that, let alone do it when meditating?

  15. YEah man people are stupid. The dumb people at a local church banned the teaching of meditation in their church because they thought the point was to make yourself float or something so that magic so it's bad.

MEditation is nice and relaxing but i must point out something.

If your content with what you have at all times, what is the drive to go for the best things because lets not kid ourselves, the best things are fucking great to have. I'm not talking expensive such as a higher doller amount but what the actual value is to you. IF you have shitty food and could have way better food why wouldn't you get the better food? Of course it comes down to how much youll give to recieve, but now were going off in a whole nother direction.

    Meditation yay!

  16. there's no reason you have to conform to a society of hate and stupidity centered around television shows, religious cults, news agencies, government corruption, racism etc. there are infinitely more positive things to spend your time doing that will benefit the planet more than focusing your mind on nothing. we should be creating and appreciating culture rather than attempting to escape into a mind devoid of thought, if that's what you get from meditation.

personally i've never gotten a whole lot from meditation alone. i haven't found any questions, much less answers. i prefer things like ecstatic dance and chanting in combination with music and what i will refer to as sacraments. i'll have to give meditation another shot.

  17. I actually want to respond to almost everything everybody has to say... lol

To Fracturtle: Yes, maybe I am pompous and/or even pretentious. Still. If I am, what of it? We all have character faults. If the worst I am is pretentious/pompous then just consider it me taking pride in my own character! :D :p

To everyone who has the positive things to say on meditation: Yall are absolutely right. Meditation is to your mind what exercise is to your body.
    It's just so goddamn beneficial!
    like weed :p

To Gooch: It's not like I'm living destitutely. I'm 18. I have a job with my best friend. I go to college for free. I have my own truck. I got internet. I think I eat a nutritious diet of southern cooking and alot of fruits.
About the only thing I could improve is my weight. and actually that is already improving. I'm already below 270!! (I'm very tall so I don't look that fat anyway)
If I could get myself down to 230 or 240 I'd be very very skinny lol.
    Anyway, life is going great.

    (begin rant)
AND life is a fucking gift. Everyone who can see, walk, smell, taste, hear, and think sanely, should wake up every morning and be grateful that they can see, hear, smell, taste, walk, and think sanely.
    Be grateful you ate today.
Be grateful you have a fucking house.
Be grateful for your hott girlfriend or be thankful you have a girl at all (or boy)
    Be thankful for clean water.
Be thankful you live in an age where you can TALK to someone hundreds of miles away.

For ONE DAY be as thankful for ALL the things you have.
Because throughout history and even right now, there are some people who don't've everything you have!!!

    Word.
    Meditate on this shit everybody.

I fucking love this site btw. :gc_rocks:

  18. i feel like humility has something to do with the path to enlightenment, which seems to be the point of meditation. i could be wrong.

    Yeah. You are wrong. ^^

haha just messing with you man.

Yeah I am full of it. I admit it. It's something I honestly need to work on.
I also need to work on respecting people's opinions/tastes when they differ from my own.

But now that I think about it. Humility is for those who partake in Buddhism. I don't. Though, I might someday. I could be wrong, but that is what I've been led to believe.

  20. I see what you are getting at. But I am stressing the point of how our culture today should not be something we should even appreciate. I do agree on creating new culture. But only to stand against the one we live in today.

But I would also argue everything comes from nothing. Our thoughts are just a realm of nothingness. But we put those thoughts into something. So really, thinking of nothing is truly the best way to do something. We are not avoiding the world, but rather trying to improve the planet through meditation.
