CBD Tinctures Trying to make it work

Discussion in 'Medical Marijuana Usage and Applications' started by PurplePear, May 29, 2020.

  1. I am going to be 60 soon. I had been getting my meds through Worker’s Comp. since 2004 for back and head injuries with neurological and pain meds respectively. In October they informed me they were going to be stopping my medical support completely cold turkey. My husband lost his job the same time. And on a totally unrelated case my mother passed away. October was a bad month.

So we look at the situation and the prices of the medication that I had been on and what we had on hand. To be honest I did not always take all of the pain medication that I was prescribed. I think somewhere I thought there might be a day that I would need them. The brain pills I took, so I had no stash.

Medical marijuana was what we decided to try. My husband had been smoking for years. I had been around tokers most of my life. I tried smoking pot when I was a teen. It was horrible. It burned my lungs, gave me the worst headache I ever had. I was nauseous, sleepy, anxious and burning up. I stayed away from pot and pot smoke for decades. It was not until I got married that I was finally able to be around people who smoked. It took me a while to get able to be in a room with people smoking and not have breathing issues.

(I always had issues with my lungs. I was born prematurely. Even regular tobacco cigarettes gave me problems with my lungs. I did smoke for some time, ultra light cigarettes.)
I got my card and we tried some products my husband already had gotten.

I do not know what the specific strain of pot the drag I took may have been but it was just like the very first time I had tried pot. I was so sick and my lungs were burning. I was coughing and doing that weird gak thing it was horrible, yup, just like before. My lungs hurt for two days. So that does not work for me at all.

(When I quit smoking cigarettes I used a vape pen. I got down to zero nicotine. I think smoking for me was more about the nervous activity than the nicotine.)

Then we tried the pot vape pen. We got the same results as smoking the weed directly. I was surprised. The only thing different was that my lungs only burned for about a day or so. Honestly I was not expecting that at all, I really thought vaping would be the perfect vehicle for me. I like my vape pens. I am not sure if they have all the options for the flavour choices, but the ease and the mess would be great.

Now we are trying tincture. I seem to be having some success, but again I am still having issues with my lungs. I do not get the burning, but it is difficult for me to breathe if I take the tiniest amount that gets me tingling. The tincture we have been getting is 303.3mg of THC and no CBD.

We are wondering if we should even bother trying edibles.

l really wanted to be able to get away from all the chemicals I have been taking.

  2. I like edibles. They are mostly how I enjoy marijuana these days. Just don't take too much, start low.

  3. The only way to know if the various forms of Cannabis are going to work is old fashioned testing. That means on yourself and several times of each variation to iron out 1 off effects.
    THC-a
    THC
    CBD-a
    CBD
    Delta-9-THC = Smoked -vaped-alcohol oral tinctures
11-Hydroxy-THC = Eaten and Converted by the Liver (5 times stronger)

We can help you create and experiment with all of the forms and help figure out what works best for your personal needs.
I've done this with several of our aging friends with medical issues who wanted to see if Cannabis helped their personal troubles.
I'm 10 for 10 as it has helped from minor to major ways on everybody who has tried it.

Are the cannabis and tinctures helping? Without a positive outcome I am concerned. I sympathize, but you just may not tolerate even small amounts of cannabis. I consider "burning lungs" and difficulty breathing a deal breaker. Best of luck. I hope you're able to get off the chemicals. BNW gave some possible solutions and good advice. I urge you to work with him. He's the master at pain control with cannabis.

  5. I am not sure how this was going to help me. I am living in Florida now. I do not grow anything at this time, I am not sure if I can yet. Edibles are not available here as far as I can see they are not close yet either. If you have suggestions for tinctures which seem to be the best product available for me at this moment I would greatly appreciate that. Are we able to order products on-linelike edibles from other states? I am so clueless when it comes to weed culture. Thank you for your help.

  6. We all started as newbees at some point so don't worry about it.
All you need is a source of any grade of cannabis and we can walk you through the rest of the processing.
Just a few grams can be used to get you some basic Tincture and edible oil made up for testing your response to the various forms.

The -a forms are raw plant. THC or CBD heavy. The -a form just means it didn't get a decarb so it is considered an "inactive" preparation. Useful for users who really can't deal with the heavy "Stone" that the active forms come with.

Decarboxylation = Baking weed in the oven to activate it before eating.
240 F for 40 minutes uncovered is the generally accepted method.

This should be done for anything you intend to eat or drink to change the THC-a into the active form THC.

A basic Alcohol tincture is weed + Alcohol shaken for 10 seconds and done.
Can be done with either Active or inactive Cannabis.
The higher the proof the better the extraction will be. 190-151 everclear is best.

Typical load and I'll dump a full fifth of booze into this next.

I freeze the booze as cold it helps to limit extraction of the more polar compounds.
Can do this with just a few grams of weed and a shot glass of booze. use with eyedropper and few drops at a time.
Takes about 10 minutes to feel full effects.

  7. My “KISS” method (dinkydow dust): do a good decarb, grind the results as finely as possible and swallow a tad or add it to food of your choice or put it in an appropriate sized capsule. I find 100-200mg of dust is an appropriate serving for myself but it varies widely from person to person.

    Good luck
