Trying to keep it simple

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Outdoors' started by ThatscoolIguess, Feb 24, 2010.

  1. I've been considering growing at my cottage, I go up there in the summer. I read the outdoor grow guide, and it scared me alot. Is it possible for me to plant a plant, leave it to nature for however long it takes to grow, and then harvest it? I don't expect anything amazing, just mids. Quantity is also not an issue, I don't smoke alot.
Anyway, the scenario is my cottage is in Canada. I'd go up in the summer, plant the plant in the forest (no one walks through where I plan to plant). I'd leave it for around 2 months, (that's how long it takes to grow, right?), watering when I can. After the two months, I'd harvest it and let it dry by hanging it from trees.
    Then I'd have some weed.
So what I guess I'm getting at is, is this possible? What problems do you see? Tips and advice?
    Thanks.

  2. Flowering time will be like 40+ days depending on strain. Other than that look at about 4-6 months grow time from seedling to harvest

  3. It is possible but you need to select the right site. You need a spot that gets good sun preferably. It is possible to find spots that you do not need to water either. For example, I've seen people grow on river banks by digging a hole until they hit the water table. Then they placed their plant in this and it got water all year long. It is tricky though - if you plant it in a spot that gets TOO much water the plant can die.

  4. 4-6 months?! That's alot longer than what I've heard.
Edit: Waters not an issue, the spot I'm thinking of is just up the hill from a lake, and it rains decently often.

  5. Outdoor harvest times are not determined by the length of time from when the seedling and/or clone was started. Cannabis is photo sensative - it is the length of dayligh that causes it to flower, not the length of time it has grown. Assuming that you are not growing auto-flowering strains, or that you are not going to try to manipluate the light cycle to cause them to flower as soon as you put them outside, you need to figure that you will be caring for these plants for at good 5-8 months.

Also, flowering times are much more stretched out when growing outdoors since the shift in the light cycle is not as extreme. A 60 day strain may flower for 90 days or more when grown outside.

  6. Listen man you need to do ALOT more research before you do this but I'll try to help you out.

First off as the guy above me said marijuana buds according to a light cycle, not age. This means if you live in Canada you bud will not be ready until August at least. (I think thats about right... live a good bit south of Canada)

And also your gonna need to scout out a nice safe place for your plant where it gets a atleast 5 hours of sunlight a day. You are gonna also want to go through the small hassle of bringing in good nutritious soil or else your plant will grow, but not really thrive. (This is from personal experience)

Check the web out man it's full of info on how to grow the marvalous ganja plant!

  7. Yeah I've been looking into it, and I don't have the time for that kinda stuff. I was basically hoping to get it grow like it used to, as a weed completely naturally.
    And what's this autoflowering stuff?

  8. If you let it grow like a weed your quality and yield will usually suffer. Not saying you can't grow cannabis like that, but just keep that in mind. Don't expect to get a years worth of chronic smoke growing like this, esp. on your first try. Cannabis is a hardy plant but at the same time it likes to be pampered. There's a big difference between having it grow and having it thrive.

Autoflowering genetics are strains that flower after a set amount of time instead of flowering due to the length of daylight. Most of the ones I've seen were not that impressive as far as the smoke and the yield goes, but they have their uses. If you want something that will get you smoke mid season with not a lot of hassle they can be a viable option.

  9. August ha I wish! probably last week of sept first week of october for an mostly indica strain.

  10. Quality isn't a big deal, I'd be expecting low-mids (something to use as a filler, kind of like batch when rolling joints). And yield also isn't a big deal, to be honest I'd be fine with anything over an ounce.
My friend said it would stink in my bag, is there any way to disguise the smell, and how bad would it be?

  11. ur idea is great. the simple thing is to bring in a few bags of cheap dirt where u plant....and u need to plant a few so ur assured a female.(i dont know why nobody told ya that) 5 hrs of direct sun will be great....and U will get over an OZ and IT will be good weed...it is simple....I think its hilarious to watch people spend hundreds of dollars on here to grow 1 oz or 2 oz of weed.....Just go buy it then ya know.....ur idea is perfect and dont bite into the market which MJ sites seed banks ect have created to get ur hard earned money......its too bad its such a buisiness now...bag seed with water a lil dirt and a female plant will do just fine.....dont worry about smell u need a plant 1st....and u will become creative....i can tell ur no dummy.....
