So i've really had the urge to try my hand at growing my own plant lately. I have absolutely no experience and I dont know anyone personally that does. Im not really looking to sell it I just want it for me and my friends. So my questions are: How long does everything take, from the time I order the seeds to the time I light my first bowl? How much will everything cost, seeds, lights, pots, soil, etc? Is it going to be insanely more expensive than just buying normally? How much can I actually expect to harvest? And finally, is it really as complicated as it seems? I just have the feeling that its hyped up to be a lot more difficult than ot really is. Plus, I like a challenge.
How much is up to you really. You can buy a 100 dollar light or 2000 dollar light. Can have a tent the size of a bed room or a little 2x2x4 tent. Is it complicated no. Just read up. Read the stickies at the top of the forums, read some grow jourals, google some grow guides. Growing Cannabis takes generally about 3 months from start to harvest. 1 month veg 2 month flower.
Seeds: $10-$100 (attitude seedbank, google it, I got my seeds there) 600w HPS/MH: $170 (ebay) Fans/ducting: $150 (Ducts, exhaust fans, oscillating fan) Grow room: $125 (Grow tent from Ebay), mine in my signature was $200 and its a whole room Soil: $50 Pots: $20 (4 plants) Nutes: $50 (give or take, depends what you want) Chalk up water and power as not worth counting and thats what you're looking at. I'm essentially doing this setup, with the grow room we built for $200, haven't bought our nutes yet but will soon, and way more plants. You'll also need other various things, such as a PH meter somewhere along the rode and solo cups to start the seeds in. I'd say you could harvest an oz, maybe 1.5oz's per plant if you really did your research and treated your plants right.
At first when you set up you end up buying all sorts of things, then needing more of this or that. The cool thing is once your all situated on what type of grow you want, size etc you own all of it and really wont require much for a long while. The only things I really ever need are more soil and more nutes when Im out of those but those last a long while.
You don't necessarily have to have a big set up like Dissec has.... many people grow single plants at a time and on a pretty little budget , although you do get out what you put in, but you can still get some decent harvests.. Do a bagseed CFL grow, simplest... i think anyway.
What you need to consider first is how much you want to harvest for your time. Are you wanting to be completely free from having to buy? If so, figure you need to grow enough to supply yourself for three months. If you smoke alot, your going to need alot more than someone who only smokes a bowl every now and then. A small setup is fine, if it meets your demands but in my expierience a decent hid setup is easy to get 1/4 to 1/2 lb per three months. Now, as you will see in your reading some people pull bigger numbers with cheaper setups. Some of that is skill or technique, some longer veg times, and some pure internet bs. To make a long story short, determine your personal goals, budget, and how much time you want to put in to growing. Then tailor your setup to what fits for you. As long as you put forth the time and effort, growing is easy. Dont get me wrong, it can be quite a bit of work but it isnt that hard. Definitely worth the effort and cost when you are smoking top shelf dank that cost next to nothing compared to buying.
