Is anyone else sick of hearing about this? A man who killed a cop is going to get killed himself? People are saying they have given up on the American justice system ..... 1. Every court found him to be guilty, but the NAACP believe he isn't guilty so this is what everyone is going by. 2. The American justice has been "gone" for years, I don't know why people are just realizing it now.
I'm pretty sure they're saying a majority of the witnesses are recanting their stories which makes them very unreliable. I don't think you're putting yourself into the situation, with the way the justice system is, your ass can be set up and sent to prison for a crime you didn't commit. There doesn't need to be any hard evidence, eye witness testimony is enough to put you away. Watch the movie "Law Abiding Citizen". It's kind of like this but way cooler lol
The guy was convicted 20 fucking years ago. If you pester ANYONE about ANYTHING for 20 years, yes their stories might change a bit and you might plant some seeds of doubt. The fact is, these people watched him pistol whip a guy and shoot a cop. He got caught, he was proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in the eyes of the jury, and he needs to pay the death penalty for his crimes. Not every case is like a perfect damn CSI episode with fingerprints and DNA and surveillance footage. Sometimes people just get caught doing stupid shit.
(Enters thread) Fuck the death penalty (Leaves thread)
Alrighty then
I would also like to point this out "After a two-week trial with 34 witnesses for the state and six witnesses for the defense, the jury of seven blacks and five whites took less than two hours to convict Davis of Officer Mark MacPhail's murder, as well as various other crimes. Two days later, the jury sentenced Davis to death."
i dont get why theres a death penalty at all. being locked up in a jail cell your whole life is WAAAY worse. death is just an escape in my opinion.
true, but i dont think thats the only reason the death penalty should be banned. The main gripe I have with the death penalty is that quite a few people have been convicted and killed because they were seen by some to be guilty. Later it was found (through DNA evidence) that they were in fact innocent. How can you possibly kill an innocent human being? Second gripe with it, is it is way more expensive to execute someone instead of just sentencing them for life in prison. third gripe i have with the system, is that we as a society can learn way more from those that are so fucked up that they would commit such a heinous crime to be put to death. MRI's can show brain activity and which neurotransmitters are being released during certain manic episode, thus we can find preventative techniques and medications to put people on if they are showing identical signs to many of these insane killers and ultimately prevent any type of murder from occurring Finally, the government and legal system should always be the adult in the room. Capital punishment is really just revenge for the other party, which to me is a little sickening and a little barbaric in my opinion. In terms of troy davis, there simply wasnt enough proof to convict him of committing the murder let alone sentence him to be murdered himself. Many of the witness were recanting their stories just months after convicting Davis, not even years. That to me is a little suspicious. It has also been proven time and time again that eye witness accounts (even from the victim themselves) can be completely off.
The cop's family lived right next to me. I never really knew that kid because I was pretty young. But I always heard stories about that shit
Jail is not simply a punishment. It is meant to prevent the behavior from repeating. Life sentences make absolutely no sense because the state has admitted that there is no chance of rehabilitating this person to become a functional member of society. Why should we pay for someone's food, medical care, TV, exercise equipment, clothes, utilities, and housing for the rest of their life as a reward for their crimes?
how the fuck is that justice served. looks more like another murder to me. kill someone get killed yea hypocritical. death penalty is fucking bullshit. it should be rid of, and for anyone who bitches about fucking money spent on keeping them alive gtfo tell ur gov to stop wasting all other tax money on bombs so they can kill more ppl and not ever have to answer for it
notice I said I guess, I don't believe that any man should be put to death, but I also don't believe that any man should be imprisoned for life. I personally would choose death over life in prison any day. would you rather become a shell of a man living out the rest of your life in a cell or would you rather have your soul released from the vessel known as your body?
ya but if u happened to be innocent, as long as ur alive u can prove your innocence and be freed. If ur dead u never have that chance. And if u arent innocent than why do u deserve to spend more money from the hard working citizens of this country to be "freed". U should rot in a cell and we should be able to poke and prod u to prevent people from becoming victim in a heinous murder.
he was guilty so this is not relevant. If I was innocent then yes I would fight every day tooth and nail to get out. using your logic why should all the money be spent to keep you caged? 32,000$ a year to house a prisoner (in my state) times 60 years is 1,920,000. More than most people see in their lifetime. clearly you misinterpreted what i said, so again I would rather be dead than spend a lifetime in prison. my personal beliefs have nothing to do with this case, and nothing you say will change the fact that I believe that no man should be executed by the will of another man.
First of all there is no hard proof that he was guilty of anything, thats why this case has been so controversial. Yes it does cost almost 2 million to house someone but it costs three times that to execute someone. Why, because of the whole appeal process and people getting paid, such as attorneys, judges and CO's. Those people are not willing to give up all of that money. And btw i completely agree with your personal beliefs, no argument there.
I agree with you there, but imagine the feeling of taking your last steps. Walking down death row knowing your gunna die in 10 minutes must make your mind go crazy.
I agree. I'm tired of hearing about this. He was on death row for 20 years. If people had a problem with it they would have spoke out, not just when the media covered a story about it. Damn msm drones. BTW there's tons of people that are in his same situation.
