So get this.. My pops has grown outdoors for 40+ years in the west. I asked him the other day what he does to get everything started and he said he has done the same thing since the 70's and it has worked without fail. He has always been a trout fisherman taking me to small lakes, streams and reservoirs.. He said he would always bring back a few whole fish and put them in a hole in the backyard. He said he would typically put any veggies and old bread that the rabbits were going to get fead that week in the hole as well. He told me he would go back to the spot about 4 months latter and plant his seeds. When I was a child he said his biggest problem was keeping the plants below the 8' wall in the backyard. lol Haven't composted much in my life but.. Anyone ever do this or has anyone used fish as a primary ingredient in their compost? My dad might be a crazy old hippie stuck in his ways? lol
I have heard of this many times before. I would just use the guts, head and tail. You have to give it a few months to break down or it will burn your plants. You would be better off with fish hydroslate and wouldn't have to wait for it to decompose.
