Trouble Breathing?

Discussion in 'Experienced Cannabis Enthusiasts' started by Pfmohr1, Dec 9, 2006.

  1. Haha alright so I've been smoking for about 9 or 10 years now, and I've NEVER had anything like this happen before. I took a really big bong rip of some really nice shit last night, and immediately started coughing a lot. I wasn't worried because I genuinely took 2 or 3 rips worth of smoke and cleared it in one hit. Well I was blazed as hell and started noticing that I was having trouble breathing. I let it go for awhile, but it kept getting worse and worse. I'm not normally somebody to complain about shit unless its really bad, and I almost asked my friends to take me to the hospital. I tried to go to sleep and hoped it would go away, but today its just as bad. Basically I can't take a full breath... I've essentially been really out of breath for the last 10 hours or so, and it really sucks. I'm headed to the hospital in a few minutes, but I was wondering if anyone had ever had something similar happen? I'm worried that I collapsed a lung or something, something definitely doesn't feel right. Any similar experiences?

p.s. - what really sucks about this is I'm not sure if I'm gonna be able to keep smoking... oh well, its about time I invested in a vapo anyways.

  2. Yeah i'd go see a doctor, not ask pot users on the internet.

EDIT: collapsed lung is a good possibility.

Haha good point man, yeah I went to the hospital, my right lung was partially collapsed. It was actually from a car accident I was in a few days ago, the doc said that it was pretty likely that it had either happened then or the accident at least weakened the lung and the smoking just acted as a catalyst. I was mostly interested to see if anybody had any similar experiences. haha I didn't let the whole lung thing keep my down, I was out partying last night, but it sucked a LOT to not be able to hit the bowls people were offering me. I'm probably just gonna invest in a decent vape eventually, and just not smoke till then.

  4. this kind of thing happened to me a few days ago. i smoked a bowl and i think i have layringitis (sp?) and it made cough insanely and hurt my throat pretty bad. but a little while later it felt like my throat was closing up on me but it went away after a few minutes it was really weird though

  5. you could just have like bronchitis or a sickness coming on and the pot made you notice it, i dunno i have asthma a bit so thats something im used to, especially if i have a cold and i smoke i can feel really short of breath

  6. Just an update, my lung was definitely partially collapsed, but its cool now... haha I smoked last night and it was GREAT. I was pretty worried that I wouldn't be able to smoke any more, but I talked to my aunt who's a doc, and she said smoking should be good so long as I don't feel any discomfort. So I guess this was just a random thing, I think I'm still gonna invest in a nice vape, its so much better for you.

  7. You might be having a series of panic attacks.. Shortness of breath is a big sign that youre about to fuckin flip lol. But yah, go to the hospital, VERY VERY doubtful its a collapsed lung, you would be dead by now so.

  8. yeah thats a partially collapsed lung at minimum. I'd get to a hospital and get that taken care of.

  9. Haha it was a partially collapsed lung, the doc called it a spontaneous pneuma (spelling?). Apparently its pretty common in guys like me (aka skinny tall 20 year olds) and I'm a bit more at risk because I hurt my lung in a car accident a while back. In terms of a panic attack, I thought that it could be the cause at first (although I've never had any sort of thing like that happen) which is why I waited so long to go to the hospital. Basically they gave me some x-rays and determined it was a partial collapse, then gave me some oxygen, some pills, and made me stay overnight. As scary as it was, I guess it's not really a huge deal, they said some people will have very minor collapses for long periods of time and have no idea. lol pretty random thing to happen, and the fact that I was really high at the worst point had me flipping my shit, haha I was pretty convinced at one point that I was gonna die, but the doc says that wasn't ever really a danger. Regardless, it was a pretty fucked up thing to have happen.
