Waking Life. It's animated like A scanner Darkly.. but way trippier. It's a philosophical movie.. If you don't know your philosophy..some of it will go over your head.. but it's based on a guy who has a lucid dream he can't wake up from.. a lot of it makes you think though.
I tried to watch Baraka last night baked, and I gotta say it was pretty damn crazy. I only watched the first like fifteen minutes though. That red-faced monkey in the beginning was completely tripping me out.
Baraka is the most beautiful movie ever made. Then again, how many movies like that - in that league - has been made...yeah right...none (Koyaanisqatsi doesn't even come close).
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (of course) Mulholland Drive - Another good David Lynch film. Your mind will probably crash trying to figure it out fully. Eraserhead - Very dark David Lynch film. Hellraiser Donnie Darko The Wall Vouch Fern Gully whoever said it, shit was also trippy as a child.
Fight Club Bourne Identity Pulp Fiction 1st Matrix Good Shepard Primal Fear with Edward Norton "W" as in Dubya, George Bush Primeval "A true story about a man eating Crocodile named Gustave" The Departed Alpha Dog No Country for Old Men Syriana Alive Good Fellas Schindler's List Gladiator Cast Away American Psycho 1st remake Almost Famous Cruel Intentions Requiem for a Dream Snatch Drug Store Cowboy Along Came a Spider Donnie Darko Gosford Park Hannibal American Beauty K-Pax Hostel Crank Shoot Em Up Stranger Than Fiction Apacolypto Blood Diamond Ice Harvest Idiocracy Revolver really good movie Black Snake Moan The Butterfly Effect Grindhouse Disturbia Perfect Stranger Live Free or Die Hard 3:10 to Yuma The Darjeeling Limited Micheal Clayton Gone Baby Gone Dan in Real Life There Will Be Blood White Noise Sin City The Interpreter Adaptation Matchstick Men Lord of War "really good Nicolas Cage movie, pretty good mind fuck move too" Crash Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy Land of the Dead The Great Raid A History of Violence Strangers Rambo 2008 Deception 2008 Wanted Eagle Eye The Day the Earth Stood Still 2008 Revolutionary Road The International Crossing Over Duplicity Knowing "kinda corny, but O.k." To name a few? Did you mean, "To list every movie that comes to memory"? Waking Life! I couldn't remember the name of it! Excellent movie. So surreal, too. Definitely gonna go over your head a lot if you're not deep into philosophy or extremely existential. Richard Linklater is an excellent director. I wish he'd get more credit for his works, though. The rotoscoping animation is awesome. it was perfect for A Scanner Darkly. Clockwork is a definite favorite too! And as long as we've got Kubrick on the table let me bust out with 2001: A Space Odyssey
Okay, I can now fully vouch for Baraka being an amazing movie to watch while you're blazed. Its very spiritual and eye-opening. I especially loved the part with the monk walking down the busy city street with the bell in his hand.
I would have to say out of the movies I listed. Revolver and Lord of War are two must see flicks. They're very good movies with deep philosophical implications, that make you think. Google it and read about them if you haven't already seen them. Neth. Maybe 1 of your 80 movies is trippy. The topic is TRIPPY movies not every movie you've seen Primer ...and I'll list it again since everyone attention span is minimal [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CNYG9cXTSds"]YouTube- City of Lost Children trailer[/ame] [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYo_SkERMNI"]YouTube- Delicatessen (1991) trailer[/ame]
O.k. , I guess you guys must be talking about movies that are Visually trippy? I guess a mental trip or mind fuck doesn't count? Well Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy is pretty visually trippy. The Doors, "Jim Morrison" movie is pretty trippy. Someone already mentioned Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Lord of War isn't a fantasy movie, but there is some damn trippy parts in that movie, visually speaking. Mentally speaking the whole movie is pretty trippy. Pan something, the Labyrinth "the remake" is trippy. How about the Muppets take Manhattan? Or Aladdin, pretty trippy as far as children movies go. Wizard of Oz. Or the New OZ TV miniseries, really trippy. Being John Malkovich or Vanilla Sky Well, bout all I can think of as far as visual effects. Revolver my second choice, still visually trippy as well.
Now you got it. I guess mentally and visually or just plain fucking weird. Good call on the Muppets take manhattan tho
Yeah. Here's the beginning of the movie, "Lord of War" it shows the life of a bullet, it's visually trippy. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5xgg_WIurw"]YouTube- Lord of War (Opening Sequence)[/ame]
I think you can find either a visual trip or philosophical/mental trip in alot of movies that wouldn't be considered 'trippy.' I think the plot has to be focused on a surreal aspect for the majority of a film to consider it a 'trippy movie' Besides that I would call you out on Being John Malkovich and Vanilla Sky. Those movies are not just a visual trip they both have such deep meanings that aren't directly announced but are definitely there.
Why don't we just add: Spider-Man Chronicles of Narnia Harold & Kumar District 9 Hancock Fifth Element Holes The Day After Tomorrow Terminator 4 Saw V Scarface Halloween Resurrection The house on Haunted Hill Scream Not EVERY sci-fi, horror, or visually stunning film is considered trippy. I would definitely remove: Disturbia The Haunting in Connecticut Alpha Dog Grindhouse Schindler's List Pulp Fiction No Country for Old Men Good Fellas Idiocracy Just my own opinion...
Don't know if anyone has already posted these but "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" "A Clockwork Orange" "Full Metal Jacket" those are some good ones.
