I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice. I was wondering if I should cut any leaves. Also, I wanted to know if I should lollipop them? The plant receiving sun from the top to bottom doesn’t seem to be a problem. They look healthy, but I haven’t never trimmed any plant; unless, mold or aeration became a problem.
Hey! I have no experience with outdoor plants. But that Apple tree was very nice! I have noticed some dont trim outdoor plants much. Yieldwise its probably a good move to lollipop for more big buds and less popcorn. If its humid and a big leap from cold/warm in the night/day where you are i guess its more prone for mold and then it would also be a good move to thin it out a little. I guess These are all assumptions
Yes. Trim manipulate top Super crop all the above scrog net even. you can do exactly the same techniques you do inside can be done outside. it's equally as beneficial and maybe more . don't let anybody tell you otherwise. You can use the same techniques as you use inside outside it's a very beneficial. It's not only beneficial just to get a better yield and crop but it also helps prevent powdery mildew it's easier to see pests infestations the plant grows better when you chop on it some they actually really like it a lot. I just got done trimming my spring crop just yesterday and I still have a couple more plans to do yet. I've been doing it for years. I basically use the same techniques is what you use in the flower industry when your pruning for roses . But any fruit crop or flower crop you just don't let the trees or plants just grow you always prune and manipulate for better outcome . Correct . Anytime you can pull a plant down to the north so it's like a stadium seating facing the South east and west is the best bet for Optimum sun exposure to the plant. the sun side of the plant will grow 5 times better than the non side Sun the plant. It's just common sense really. The sun is your best light but you still have to use it correctly to get the best use out of it. Good luck and happy growing.
Personally I dont see any benefit in doing most indoor techniques outside. Indoors you want an even canopy because that light doesn't move. Lst and taking off unwanted growth or growth not recieving direct light, removing fans to open canopy or blocking bud sites is really all I'll do anything else is unnecessary and added work. Imo, it's all personal preference do what you want there will be other grows. Depending on veg time topping could be beneficial
Give it a try got plenty of time today is summer solstice. Still got If you don't do it you'll never know. just experiment see what it happens you ain't got to take my word for. Do it for yourself.. compare the yields from to exact same strains growing outside. 1 without doing anything to it and 1 working it. Give it a go see what you get. What do you got to lose but a little time?
Your plants look nice and healthy, good job! I think the decision can be determined more by plant traits and environmental conditions then one tried and true response. IE - Some plants will throw out massive main colas...and some plants stretch galore and throw out small rock hard nuggets everywhere. On the environmental, if the girls are getting a ton of outdoor light, then pruning the lower may only help from an airflow / pest management perspective.... just keep in mind how you'll be supporting the fruiting flowers as they start to pack on weight..
What makes you think I haven't? I don't see the advantages. Maybe if you just run one or two a year, if you can pull more than you can use why do the extra work? People pull 6 to 10lbs just using lst and veg if you can pull more than that and you want to that's your preference
Well sometimes it's not about poundage. It's not how much I can pull I look for AAA flower. I'm not trying to get a bunch of garbage. It takes expertise to get that. When you're growing outside. But I was just asking you if you wanted to try it. You sounded like you've been doing it for years and actually could form a honest opinion about it from experience.
You'll only grow bad weed with bad seeds or a shitty light, or lack of nutrients something not allowing for proper nutrient consumption. Personal preference I'll grow more in one run than I can use all year I do 3 to 4 runs a year. For me the extra work is pointless. Someone else may find it enjoyable to do all that extra, I'm happy with providing water. Why do people think doing all that extra makes better quality weed. Indoors it's true since a light cant compare with what the sun admits or the penetration of plants canopy. So indoors if you dont have a even canopy growth will be at different distances from a subpar light source. If you dont lollipop you'll have growth recieving indirect light not producing quality also taking away from quality by using nutrients. Outdoors lst goes a long way normally buds will be solid as long as it receives direct light from top bud to base limb as far as light penetrates. Using lst and light defoliation or even tucking you can get this. I will lollipop around base of plant if growth isnt recieving direct light or is in water or soil, I'll also take off base of limbs around main stalk if growth isnt in direct light, and all under developed limbs. Also remove any bud site I dont like spacing for me is personal preference
Yield size is a byproduct of a healthy planting, we can't steer AAA from BBB or garbage by pruning...
Well I say anything you can do insides you can do outside. Not only do I know from my own experiences. But I also work for a commercial farmer here in Michigan. He also practices manipulation techniques as well. Inside and out. We both grow organically 100% outside. Water and organic compost with biochar, also using organic compost tea in foliar spray and direct drench... it's all about the microbes... Think of it as solar panel placement. You want to be in the Sun as best as it can be right? The benefit of stadium type manipulation is a great benefit for Growing maximum quality yield of AAA flower.. the more sun that the plant can get will grow more danker buds more quality AAA flower that you really want. Just my two cents worth honest experience in the industry. Year's
Show me what you mean I don't understand. So if you were growing apple trees or rose bushes you aren't going to prune them to get better apples or to get better flowers?
There's a million ways to skin a cat nobodies arguing. Everyone grows for different reasons, different amounts, different methods to get the same outcome. That outcome is bud they are happy with. We drop differing opinions because there are a million ways. Growing outdoors with a moving sun to get quality bud not much is needed that's fact it's a weed that's been growing outdoors for millions of years. The quality of seed or bud strain meaning genetic make up ( size, thc potency, frost factor etc. ) matters not much else. Trees and bushes aren't weed, weed dies when it's through with its grow cycle. You prune those to get good shoots and trim off pervious season
Nice pics - Can you see the vast difference in bud and stem structure in your indoor flowering grow compared to those bushy outdoor plants?
well friend nobody's trying to argue I'm just giving you an education nobody asked you if you wanted to come down here and argue. I'm giving you sounded Vice. From practice tried-and-true practice. As I said I've been doing it for years. if you use my advice or not. I don't care.. I'm not here to argue with you either fine sir. I came here to give somebody anybody education that y'all don't have... Thanks pal Yes big time. The indoor plants require a lot more maintenance compared to the outside plant's. we do leave extra leaves on there compared with what we do the inside. The inside gets 12 hours of light in flower every single day from high-end Lux LEDs. But when we're growing outside we have to deal with the elements and we don't always have long light days. When we're outside we're around 15 and a half hours right now today of daylight that can be assumed. But we don't always get that because of overcast Skies rain days fog in the morning time so on. So outside we leave a few extra solar panels on. Well I do the boss gets after me on his crop he likes me to strip them right down that's what I'll be doing tomorrow and the next day is trimming and thinning his crop right out and preparing it for the next stage. It'll take me about eight hours to do his crop. I'll do it for hours tomorrow and 4 hours on Thursday. Some of them pics are from before trimming outside and some are from after trimming. I didn't label them. But you can imagine. sorry.. That's why there's ladders, we were just starting trimming. they're just some good looking pics of some good looking plants. That was from the summer of 2017 when I first started working for the commercial farmer and he started getting more involved with training outside with his crop. That's why I work for him cuz he likes my growing techniques. The farmer is license for 144 and he runs 24 outside and he runs rest inside. I also practice light deprivation outside in my grow cage. Where I can grow 2 and even as many as 3 crops in the summer here in Michigan. It was worth it a while ago not so much these days. We used to be able to get rid of our overages to the dispensaries but not anymore. I just grow for myself my wife and I'm also a caregiver for 2.
I bet I didn't answer the question though that you were probably looking for after I read your question again. So the buds inside are easy to make dank and hard every time. It's easy because you got a controlled environment inside you can do anything you want inside. make any kind of environment you want to grow in. You got the money you can do anything you want. You can make it like Hawaii in your grow room. Or like Afghanistan. But when we're outside under the sun no Greenhouse... as I said in the above post...we have to deal with the elements. All of those things will make or break you're outside grow compared to your inside grow. So what we have found is that. Well you know Mother Nature hopefully is working with you as well. Having a very intense Sun and medium humidity helps for making the buds dank outside. But there's an edge to be followed on that as well if there's too much heat then it turned out fluffy. And the only ones that end up real dank are the very top flowers on the very end of almost all branches. One of the biggest things too is to know your plant. Some inside strains just don't grow good outside. I suggest when growing outside that you actually look for genetics from a breeder whose breeding for outdoor growing. As most of those breeders know what going on and they're crossing plants to come out with that in mind.
Thanks for the comment anyway, but I'm a probably trim a couple of them this week. I live in Los Angeles, California, it doesn't get cold at all at night, so the temperature stays a few degrees lower at night but not too many. I will lollipop them this week actually, when I get some time. I appreciate the input even though it is not your expertise, as far as outside.
Well stated. Exactly my thoughts. I had my biggest yield ever by setting up an outdoor scrog. While it's true that the sun can penetrate a canopy better than indoor lights, in my opinion the goal is still to get all tops.
