Trichome color vs pistil color

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by inastupor, Jul 7, 2019.

  1. I have a plant that looks to have mostly cloudy trichomes with 10-20% amber, however the pistils are only 15-25% orange with the rest being white and sticking straight out. My second plant has mostly cloudy trichomes with even less amber (maybe 5%), but ALL of its pistils are white. Can a plant be ripe regardless of the pistil color?? I really wanted NO amber tris on my buds but was sure I was seeing some clear heads and the pistils were still white so I kept chugging along when I saw the 1 or 2 ambers. Now I fear I'm letting it over-ripen. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!

  2. Pictures would help, but it’s not impossible. Make sure to check the trichomes on the buds and not the ones on the sugar leaves. Those mature faster.

  3. Thanks for the quick reply. I was freakin out big time. I actually pulled the plants and put them in neutral light then spent a half hour checking things out with the loupe. You're right, all of the amber heads I found were on the sugar leaves and there were a lot less once I got them out of the red light of the grow tent. The buds still have a shit load of clear heads. I almost did something stupid by being impatient. Thanks again for the help.

  4. No problem. The last part is always the hardest. Patience grasshopper.

  5. Good call checking them outside the grow area. I spent a bunch of time this morning staring at two of mine with the loupe thinking the exact same thing you started this post with. I need to look at mine in other light. Couldn’t believe I was seeing some amber already. Hairs are still mostly white

  6. Yeah this was driving me nuts. I was sure I still had at least a week or 2 left and my buds weren't as big as I new they could be. I was actually kinda disappointed. Glad I didn't give em the chop

  7. So you're getting the amber trics off the leaves then since none are on the bud. We dont smoke leaves bro. Plant isn't ready. If it's still popping out white pistils then it's still growing. Only trics that matter are on the buds. Leaves will amber way before the buds. By the sounds of it you have more than a week but without pics nobody can tell you for sure

  8. Yeah that makes total sense about the leaves. I'll know better for the next grow for sure.

  9. Took a few shots with the macro and was able to get one decent pic. Definitely, looks like I've got some more waiting to do. Even since I originally posted they're both spittin out new pistils everywhere and drinking water like crazy.

  10. Yeah I see quite a few clear there. 2 weeks+ judging from that shot.

  11. Here's a pic of my afghan tree, about 60% of the pistils are still white yet the trichomes are maturing already, even though there's a few immature ones and there's still like 2 or 3 weeks left.

I'm not aiming for a couch lock high but she might just give me one by the time the buds finish fattening up because I'm spotting more Amber trichs by the day. [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

  12. Will you give it the chop even if your buds aren't as big as they could be? The whole reason I picked up this specific strain was for the uplifting head high and same as you I don't want the couch lock.

  13. That plant still has plenty of time left. Be patient

  14. Strain specific choice of the strain is its uplifting high. Well, the plant is tested at its maturity. Not solely on a trich color. They aren't going to test immature buds. So why harvest before maturity?.
I don't even bother paying attention to trichs until my buds have stopped swelling and stop producing new pistils.

  15. I've been thinking about it, but I'm still undecided... I love uplifting mind highs but at the same time I don't want to hurt my yeilds.. What would you do?

I may just leave it to do its thing

  18. Didn't mean to hijack your thread bro, it just seemed like we're having a similar situation

  19. Not at all man, we're having the same issue so if you get an answer so do I. I think After the Shot makes a good point. If strains are reviewed for the type of high they give it would make sense that they would be tested at maturity. I'm going to wait until I get around 60-70% of the pistils to mature. Luckily for me I started a 3rd plant about a month after the first 2. So if I totally dislike the high I get from the first harvest I'll tinker a bit with the next.

  20. Yeah that seems best man... Do you have journals here on your grows?
