Above is an excerpt from an article I read on the Huffingtom Post. I like where this trend is taking us. If you want to read the whole article, here's the link: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/04/19/marijuana-legalization-public-support-growing_n_851238.html
That won't stop the damned government from changing their minds. I forgot his name, but I remember seeing the same official multiple times, saying things like "I will not let this good nation go to pot!" and "The true evil lies in marijuana!" I'm paraphrasing, but he pretty much believes that pot is very dangerous, and addictive, and that if it became legal EVERYONE, literally EVERYONE would be smoking it 24/7.
It's funny that most people don't know that Alaska already has made it legal lol. Possession: Residents may possess up to one ounce of marijuana for their own personal use in their home. Read more: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Is_marijuana_legal_in_Alaska#ixzz1K5wiSsWj
Most of the people who support prohibition are old. Most of the people who support legalization are young. Right now it's just a waiting game, but the demographics are going to continue shifting in our favor.
It's decriminalized in California, but I'm not sure yet of the difference between decriminalized and legal. Anyone care to enlighten me?
Has anyone read this? Alaska has already made pot legal! Possession of one ounce for use in one's home is completely legal! How long has this been the case? This is huge news.
Lol this didn't just happen recently. Alaska has been back and forth with their laws for 20 some years.
Decriminalized means that you can't get arrested for it IF it's within the boundaries of the weight that they have set (1 ounce) However they can still write you a ticket if they wish BUT it's entirely up to the cop! Me and my friends have so far gotten away 4 separate times without the cops taking our weed, hell 2 of them looked at it and handed it back. You just have to be honest and realize that cops are like us too, most probably don't agree with keeping it illegal but it's their job. That also is where the ticket writing comes into play, since it's not a criminal offense anymore they can 100% opt to "not see anything". Legal means that everybody can do it with no penalty.
I believe Alaska just decriminalized it, not full legalization. Decriminalizing it just means it's not a felony to have on you. You might get a ticket or something, but it's like a speeding ticket - you're not going to be subject to the criminal justice system. Legalization means fully legalizing the possession and sale of it (no fines, and sale is permitted etc), if it were legalized lots of those amsterdam styled coffee shops would pop up selling any strain you could ever want, probably stating the THC level and sativa/indica ration and since larger companies will be competing with one another to grow it the prices will be incredibly low and the quality will be incredibly high. Most people who have read the actual estimates and what not that I know favour legalization. Note: legalization also means taxes, which I think is good because instead of fueling a black market you're purchases can help society. And don't think taxation = higher prices. If legal it would be about $50 an ounce to purchase in stores (if wanted I can find sources) and there may be a 25-50 dollar an ounce tax on that. Which is a lot, but imagine, after that hefty tax, only paying 75-100 bucks per ounce of quality shit.
The thing that everybody in America doesn't realize is how fuckin cheap it is to grow weed lol. $25-$50 for an OUNCE of dried plant matter is actually quite a bit.
Actually you are wrong. Possession of up to one ounce of pot is completely legal in Alaska for use in one's home. That is better than decriminalized..
That's way better than the average decriminalized laws, but unfortunately it doesn't address the greater criminal element associated with drugs like the huge cartel problem in Mexico. It's definitely better than most states though.
