transhumanism project

  1. I got an independent contract coming up in the spring quarter of school and I'm trying to come up with concepts now so when that class starts I'll be able to get right into the imagery. Should I continue further with this concept? I need a different term for technoshaman for sure, I hate the word.

    -----------------
In the year 2037 as the science of bioengineering matured into a diverse consumer service industry, a form of Shamanism was revived into the subculture. The integration of codeable hardware into the human body allowed the holistic community to connect to the natural world on a tangible level previously relegated to myth.

The most basic functions of a technoshaman are to provide spiritual advisement along with acting as an energy conduit between flora and fauna. Besides being able to give and take life, the technoshaman can assay the active chemicals of various lifeforms using a modified endocrine system. The shaman can then act as a filter between the reagents and his patients. Side-affects are minimized through this sort of treatment.

By 2042 when widespread waring reduced civilizations to city states, corporate enclaves and nomadic bands, the few technoshamans that survived the onslaught became highly revered and worshiped. The materialism that dominated the prewar world dissolved into a culture of survivalism. The technology that created this class of person still existed at this time but it was also highly scattered over several power bases and essentially unavailable to anyone but the most influential.

Huge population migrations would culminate around the shamans where they led their people politically and spiritually through new animistic practices. Because of the limited availability of working technology, they taught their people to utilize the environment to its fullest potential while respecting the balance that humans are just but one creature in nature. As long as there was a shaman, the standard of living was relatively high in most settlements, albeit privative. Some shamans shunned this authority bestowed on them and became rouge agents with their own agendas.

It must be noted that other technologically modified humans existed but for the most part their interface interacted one way digitally and so were still dependent on the shaman for bioenergy and medical treatment when they were outside the working urban power and communication grids
