Transfering grown plants?

I had recently gotten an opportunity to get a plant thats been growing, (18in) from a friend, now the only issue as of now is the transfering itself. The car ride is about 2 hours long. So I guess the question is, How do I avoid this plant from dying and whats the safe way of going about this? Any help would be appreciated.Thanks.
