Trainwreck, Sourcream & Sharksbreath CFL & 250w HPS Grow

Discussion in 'Indoor Grow Journals' started by trackin90, Oct 21, 2010.

  1. Hello fellow MJ cultivators. I have read hundreds of journals and almost have two sucessful grows under my belt thus far. This will be my first time attempting to document one of my grows and hopefully it will motivate me to document the rest of my grows here on out.

My first grow was Northern Lights that I recieved as a clone from a friend. The clone was very healthy and I immediately took it out of the plastic cup and transplanted it to the ground. I transplanted on 6/7/2010 and topped multiples times in the following weeks. Half way through veg period a rodent or some sort of animal decided to have a snack and chomp one of my branches off. I live in New England so I started seeing hairs around end of july beginning of august. The plant showed significant signs of yellowing after buds started forming. Fan leaves started turning yellow and dying off from the bottom up. Luckily the plant survived and was harvested on September 29th. The final height was 53 inches and it produced 6 main colas with nicely formed frosted citrusy smelling buds. :yummy: Final weight was 37 grams of dry bud. I believe it would have yielded more if it hadnt had the deficiency or rodent issues. I will add pics of the grow from start to finish tomorrow.

Well now that I've said that I can get to my current grow. Since the northern clone was such a sucess I figured I could get used to growing my own dope. So I went ahead and purchased a gang of MJ strains. All seeds were purchased from attitude seed bank. My first order placed in august included:

Green House Seeds- x2 Cheese x2 Church x2 Trainwreck x2 El Nino x2 Lemon Skunk

I also recieved two freebies from DNA Genetics Sourcream & Sharksbreath. I orginally purchased these beans for next season to grow outdoors but one day about a month ago I was so bored that I decided to start an indoor grow :D WOOT WOOT!!!

So here it goes. I germinated the two freebies (Sharksbreath & Sourcream) and also a Trainwreck for the hell of it. Used the always dependable paper towel germinating method and all three germinated within 48 hours. So I ran to my closest hydroponics shoppe and picked up some fox farm ocean forest soil along with some ph up, ph down, and fox farms grow big which I have been feeding full strength every other watering for about a week now. :bolt:The germinated seeds were then placed in their respective 1 gallon pots on 9/5. The Sharksbreath and Trainwreck both peeked above soil within 48 hours and the Sourcream was the last to sprout right behind them.

All three strains were striving in the ocean forest soil. By the third week all three plants were working on its 4th internode. At this point in time I decided to top all three. Three weeks later the plants have 6-9 main shoots all within 2-4 inches apart. I've also experimented with supercropping the shoots close to the top so the bottom branches can catch up. Also minor LST was performed by tucking fan leaves behind eachother to promote more growth under the canopy.

As for lighting for the first month and a half I used 3 23w 5700k spectrum CFL's. I implemented a 24/0 light schedule for seedlings. Once sprouted I switched to 18/6. The CFL's worked great until I realized the plants were getting bushier and I would eventually need another source of light to supplement. Luckily I have a good friend that loaned me his extra 250watt HPS in exchange for a trainwreck and el nino bean. :yay:

I have had the 3 5700k 23w bulbs and the 250w HPS running for almost a full light cycle now and can already tell that the plants are going to enjoy the extra source of light. I will upload pics sometime this afternoon of my previous outdoor grow and my current indoor grow. Just too lazy and its late. It's about time to hit the bong nd hit the sack. :bongin:

  2. Im not sure how to post pics in my message so I have attatched pictures of my previous grow. Northern Lights from clone.

Now that you've seen pictures of my last grow lets get on to my current indoor closet grow. I went over some specifics in my first post. I decided to grow out DNA Genetics Sourcream & Sharksbreath. Also threw in a Green House Seeds Co. Trainwreck.

I didnt plan on making a grow journal hence the plants being 7-9 inches tall already. I will try my best to keep everything and everybody updated as much as possible.

  4. I recently took a peek at the drainage holes in the pots to check for any signs of roots. To much surprise I found that the plants have already used all the space the pots have provided them with.

    Time to transplant!!!

I ran out to the nearest store to purchase a few 5 gallon buckets. I also stopped at the Hydro store to pick up some more goodies. Items purchased were Superthrive, a GH ph balance test kit, and a second bag of FFOF soil.

As for the transplants they were a "piece of cake". Previous to transplanting I let plants go without water for at least 24 hours so the root ball would be dry and stay together while transferring. Soil was saturated with superthrive/water soloution before and after transplanting. All three plant's roots had already started to make their way around the sides and bottoms of the 1 Gallon buckets so I think I transplanted just in time.

They are now in their final homes as I think the 5 gallon buckets will be sufficient through the flowering stage. Any opinions?

  7. Hello again, I think its time for an update on the current grow. I also have a minor issue that I need my fellow growers help with.

I transplanted all three plants from 1 gallon buckets to 5 gallon buckets two weeks ago. I already have thick white roots coming through the bottom of the buckets. I switched from 18/6 to 12/12 a week ago. Is it safe to flower the plants in the current buckets? Or would the plants benefit from being transplanted again?

Besides this issue the plants IMO look healthy as heck!! They are around 8-9 inches tall with a 12-16 inch canopy. I attatched pictures of the tops as well as the stems to show how beastly these bonzais are. Enjoy!!

BTW It seems like no one likes to post on this forum. I've been gone for a week and not one reply on my thread, I must be boring

  8. Bump!!!!!!!

  9. Someone give me some feedback JEEEEZE!! This forum is wack if there isnt any dialogue.

  10. Hey trackin90... Just came across the grow. Looks really good. Im getting close to transplanting to 5 gallon buckets as well. I transplanted to 1.5 gallons last week and this week they already have roots poking out of the bottom. They're growing really well.

You should be fine with the 5 gallon buckets. Im also running a 250HPS right now that Im hoping to supplement before flowering. I currently have 6 plants, which is way too many for the light I currently have and the space (3'x4'x7'). Since the seeds Im using aren't feminized I was expecting a few males, now Im sorta counting on it!

    Looking good though... Im subbed.

  11. Hey thanks for the feedback. I was kind of worried the 5 gallon pots wouldnt be sufficient for the whole grow. I'll be sure to check out your grow. I'm always interested in seeing what these 250w lights can yield. :smoke:

  12. Sourcream is starting to push out its first couple of hairs. Mainly shooting out of the top main colas. I can't wait for the buds to start forming. I will post some pictures of the hairs shortly =)

  13. Looking good man :) I'll be watching!
