Total beginner, need some help

  1. I recently bought a started plant from some friends. It is supposedly a Northern Lights plant, and was started outside as a clone. I don't know its age, but I'd guess it's about 2 to 3 months old. The opportunity kind of came out of nowhere, so I thought I'd give it a try despite my lack of knowlege on the subject. I've been reading a lot and after about a month, the plant is alive and not not looking too bad. It's about 6 inches tall and has four main branches, each with what appears to be bud at the top. It has many pistils at these tops, about 70% being brown. Until recently these tops have been the only area with growth. It has started sprouting 2 white (pistils?) followed by some tiny leaves from the stem and branches. I've read that this is to be expected after flowering, but I've still got it on 24 hour vegetative growth light. As it's only 6 inches tall, I don't feel like it should go to 12-12 light, but it's growth is pretty slow. I'll get some pictures on soon, but does 6 in. seem too small to start flowering? I've been feeding it with some generic 10-15-10 plant food every other watering, and I've been watering every other day. Not sure about the type of light. Any thoughts would help, and sorry for making this so long...

  2. First, welcome to GC.

    Now to your plant..
If its as old as you say. it should be taller(could be your light, maybe be more specific). And if your on 24/0 there shouldnt be any buds yet. If there are then it may be NL x Lowrider or just some auto flowering strain.

6in is tall enough to flower but you may not get much, the strain belladonna can be put into 12/12 at 6in and will grow to be 2-2.5ft. If you only have that one plant i would suggest keeping it as a mother, and cloning off it once its bigger.

If you decide to veg longer you may want a fert. with somthing higher in N than P and K, but what your using now will work. Once theyre in flowering you should switch to a blooming fertilizer.

  3. Thanks for the response. I was wondering if my plant might have cloned after it had flowered a bit. Would that explain the early buds? Also, would it be bad if I took clones from this plant, as every branch with leaves has bud? Lastly, I know this would be really difficult to answer without more info, but off the top of your head can you guess how many grams we might be able to get if I did start flowering this early? I have a 10-52-10 fertilizer I'll be using when I do start.

  4. I dont know what you mean by it may have cloned after it flowered..and yes you could take a clone from it or more if its branchy enough, but because it has buds it will take longer and lower your success rate.

It is nearly impossable to guess the yield because the strain is unknown. Most likely very few grams.

Im not sure about that fertilizer, i think you should get somthing with more potassium. But again, I am unsure.

  5. There you go again Spanishfly, if you aint got nothin nice to say then don't say nothin!
You're growing this girl indoors. What kinda light are you using first off? A picture would be great too. And she's flowering under 24 hours of light too huh? It's up to you to let it go into 12/12 and flower, or try to veg it more but it sounds like it's flowering in spite of you. That fert...is it Expert Gardener from wal mart? If it is, get something better. It's too much P, not enough anything else, you're bound to lock out something or throw off pH. It won't ruin your plant, but there are much better choices. I used it TWICE on a plant and it screwed her all up. If you can, find a good organic fertilizer with a little more balance, like 5-15-10, and the all important micronutes. These are things like calcium, magnesium, iron, sulfur, etc. It should be on the box, labeled guaranteed analysis. And always start off with 1/2 or 1/4 the dose on the container.

  6. I think he meant the clone was taken after the mother was sexed and flowering. I have had trouble myself with Indicas taking clones after sexing the mother. The clones never quite seem to go all the way back into veg. I have a black Domina mom that is a year old under 24/7 and she is still throwing out little flowers here and there.

  7. That's really weird. I've just taken my first clones and they came from a revegged plant, so I don't really have much experience with clones. Is that black domina the legend they say it is?

  8. It is a good stone, very good. I grew it for my gf for medicine tho as I prefer sativas.
Willy Jack was the breeder and every damn plant hermied from alittle to ALOT.
He is cheap so I guess you get what you pay for haha so stay away from his gear.

As to the buzz...yes, it is a heavy stone like 'gee wish I would have turned on the tv before I sat down and smoked this...hmm and I am sitting on the remote....maybe if I clench my ass right, the tv will turn on.'

  9. I'm kinda worried that if I wait too long to put it into flowering, the buds that're on it now (probably between 2 and 3 grams worth) will go to waste. Any truth to this? If I put it into flowering now, could I pick it and regenerate it later? Would I be able to clone it after I put it back into vegetative growth? Still working on getting pics, hopefully be up by tomorrow. Thanks again for all the replies. Oh, and I think I'm using a 75w light. Should I get something different?

  10. Haha Lucian it sounds like you've been in that prediciment before. Thanks for your take I've heard that's a really good strain.
Murderface my first plant was flowered, harvested, put back into veg and cloned very successfully. And when I say harvested, I mean I chopped half the plant off. She's doing great now so it definitely can be done. I don't know what will happen to those buds if you don't flower her, but I know that the little buds you leave on when you reveg a plant turn brown and die after a couple weeks, once she gets back into veg mode. So if you're forcing her from flower to veg right now, the buds might die. But if she's just flowering under veg light, then I don't know but my guess is she'll probly just keep flowering. It's tough to say, if you pick off the buds now she might just keep growing more. Personally I'd just flower her and reveg her for clones. If you do, take care not to overwater or overfeed a recovering plant. If you cut half the plant off, the roots are still all there taking up nutes for a 2 foot plant when you've only got 1 foot left.

  11. I got pics! Alright, so based on these pics what do you guys think, should I begin flowering or continue veg. growth? If I start flowering should I harvest some of the buds first, or will they last through the flowering process? Any other thoughts/ comments greatly appreciated. Thanks again for all the help. I don't know how to post the pics, hopefully you can find them by following this link.

  12. It seems there are other pics that aren't mine in the link I provided. My pics are the small plant in the white bucket with what almost looks like beauty bark on top. It should bring up a pic of mine first. Basically, I'm new and I don't know what I'm doing...

  13. Any thoughts? Sorry to keep replying, just needed feedback on those pics and am wondering if anybody's still looking...
