Toronto - Kindred Cafe and Such

Discussion in 'Seasoned Marijuana Users' started by chaosbunny, Aug 9, 2008.

  1. Sorry for this simple thread but I have an important question,

My buddies and I are about to head out to the Kindred Cafe in Toronto and we just realized that this may be a BYOB system. Is that true? If so how do I score some in toronto?

    Thanks.
    Derek

    Greetings,

Unfortunately, the Kindred Cafe totally fucking blows. You'll be lucky if you can actually get service there, the staff is totally incompetent.

I'd never even recommend anybody go try it, you're going out of your way just to be annoyed and pissed off. You're better off going to the city park around the corner and rolling yourself a joint.

[[EDIT: I have heard some nasty rumors about the crowd, but they are completely unsubstantiated]]

    Yours Truly,

  4. Sam- After going to the Kindred Cafe this afternoon I could not agree with you more. They do totally fucking blow. In fact, there is a much better place to kick it called the "hot box cafe" which is not only awesome.. but free.

    Thanks !

  5. Yes! I've also heard some negative comments about the Hot Box Cafe, but I've found it to be enjoyable in my experience. The bong shop they have is good, the food is great and the atmosphere is much more friendly.

I'm glad you had a good time :smoke:

  6. I expierienced the worst service I've ever had at Hot Box, but whatever. I've heard you can buy weed smoothies at Kindred, can anybody verify this? Also I heard that Kindred is members only?

  7. Kindred has VIP rooms, with televisions, music, couches and a volcano which members can reserve. You can also just walk in and use one of these rooms if they are available.

They also have a pot-friendly patio, where you can smoke bongs, joints, whatever, but you must bring your own equipment.

As for the sale of cannabis products: I truly don't know. I've never heard it from a reliable source, and I know many people who frequent the establishment.

A great idea, but horribly executed. They could REALLY benefit from a management and staff overhaul.

Funny, we've had a few 'management and staff overhauls.' Very recently even. Hope you might be more happy if you visited now, although complaints like this are surprising and rare.

And the vast majority of KindRed visitors are thrilled with the 'execution.' Visitors from all walks of life and from all over the world.

It's always funny when people have such general negativity and so little appreciation for what we try to do, the difficulty running a place like KindRed, the complicated staffing scenario, and how amazing a place KindRed is in reality, etc. We do our best and continue to, and generally our visitors are amazed and thoroughly pleased. Not to mention all of our other effort on behalf of our 'movement.' Most of all, we're very open to constructive criticism and eager to always improve our efforts.

We can't fix issues, big or small, if all you do is relatively anonymously and unspecifically complain on a forum like this. In fact, much of what's been said here is just plain bullshit (cops, etc.)

Not to mention the whole 'what have YOU done lately' beside bashing activist organizations that actually are making positive changes thing. How can you not at least appreciate Yongesterdam!? Jeez.

If you have any valid input, we're always happy to try to fix any issues and please people even more. How exactly do we 'totally fucking blow?'

Please feel free to try contacting us, anytime, at kindred@rogers.com. We may or may not be able to get back to address any further comments here.

    Thanks and all the best!
    KindRed

Kindred, all I'm saying is that no one was trying to lodge a formal complaint with the establishment you are apparently affiliated with, but rather direct people from it due to bad past experiences.

    Get outta here.

    ^^^lol ads

i hear theres a cafe somewhere around sacred seeds, thats on 2A Dundonald Street (just off yonge)

EDIT: oh thats kindred, nevermind. and by the way they sell great salvia in sacred seeds

  11. Perhaps you're correct. Either way, it's lost considerable business in the past due to this.

Well obviously there is a massive confirmation bias here. The unsatisfied customers are the ones that walk out and you never hear from again.

The appreciation is there, but an good intentions are almost meaningless in a free market.

I really don't doubt that at all, I can only share my experiences which so far, have been 100% negative. Do you expect me to resign my experience for the sake of your good intentions?

At this point, even I must concede that those involved with Kindred indeed do much for the culture. It is a very valuable service, and I only wish that the establishment reflected this dedication. Kudos to them.

I do have some finer points of constructive criticism that could be better handled in more direct conversation... and not on a public message board.

I mean, I see so much potential in Kindred, but it seems not to hold up -- in my own experiences.

Like I said, I too know some people who have been very satisfied. At very least it's consistent.

Just reverberated the impressions outside Toronto.

It may indeed be wrong, and if it is, then I would love to help destroy this bizzare and inaccurate fallacy.

In fact, I will make a point of removing that comment. It is a EXTREMELY reasonable concession in retrospect. :)

What? This has nothing to do with the activism of cannabis users in Toronto. This has to do with the preformance of a establishment in a capitalist economy. Please don't attempt to ad hominem the sincere reviews of an establishment.

You're far better off doing what you first suggested; working constructively and helping to make improvements and to satisfy all. I would be thrilled if my own bad experiences could help Kindred reach it's full potential.

Oh but I do, I appreciate it greatly. It's made leaps and bounds of progress.

I will be sure to update you.

  12. Me and a few of my buddies r thinking of goin down to one of the cafes down in t-dot and we were wondering what the best one is? My friend says that u have to be 19 to smoke in most of them is this true? are there any where this is not tru? Also which cafes have bong shops, and which sell edibles? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Sam, thanks for your email and reasoned reply.

I'll probably stay the heck outta here for the most part, and leave it to Sam to update this thread, he's given me a bit of faith in his ability to do so :)

Except a quick word about confirmation bias... in fact we may be in an opposite type of scenario... in which most happy customers keep their mouths shut and we hear more from the squeaky wheels - and rather than confirmation bias, we take constructive input quite seriously and are always eager for reports on our staff performance, etc. and always looking to improve things. I value this type of input greatly, and always aim to take it seriously and act upon it! Thanks again!

  14. I'm not sure about the negetive experiences you've had. I was there a few months ago and had an awesome experience. In my experience, the service was fine.

  15. My experience with Toronto pot cafe's is, Kindred sucks, Hot Box rocks

so is it worth it to go all the way from richmond hill, downtown to hotbox cafe? ive never been in kindred or hot box, whats the point of those anyways?

edit: im going to be around there all the time anyways, university, you know.. but thats not until september, so should i pick up a couple dimes and go there this weekend or no?

  17. They're just pot-friendly venues. Hotbox and Kindred both serve food, and provide a good, safe atmosphere.

  18. I have the chance to go to my cousin's wedding in Toronto, and now that I hear this, I'm more intrigued on getting a ticket to leave on Tuesday =]
Do these places sell? I'm not risking my future to smuggle some bud to Canada.
Also, what are the rules and regulations in these types of places? Need to be 19?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I recently went to HotBox, but unfortunately didn't have time to visit the patio. I was, however, disappointed with the selection of seeds that they had; it seemed pretty-much as though my choices were AK47 or.....AK47. I was a little disappointed about that, but I have never grown AK47 so I figured what the hell I'll give it a shot :) . On a side note, does anybody happen to know if the Toronto420 shop is affiliated with HotBox? When I originally made the trek, I brought a map with me to find Toronto420, but when I arrived at the destination, it was nowhere to be found. All I found was HotBox. Now of course I figured this was too much of a coincidence and it must be the same shop, but the seed selection was completely different then that of the Toronto420 online catalouge. Thanks in advance guys and gals
