Topping plants?

  1. What does topping plants do? And is the same for photo and autos? Thanks

  2. Topping a plant at the 3rd node creates 2 new growths at the node starting 2 new colas making the plant more of a bush than a Xmas tree. Yes you can top a auto flower once or twice if you want to but I would just lst it.

  3. You can continue to top as the plant grows bigger making more and more colas

  4. Hhmm so what's the down side to it? Cuz that sounds almost to good to be true for lack of better way to say it lol lst like tying down the side branches?

  5. You can lo stress train the plant and not top it all you do is tie down the main shoot giving the lower branches more light. Topping the plant will slow it's growth down a bit but it will make more top colas faster

This was done with topping and LST. The purpose is to have a wider grow, and even out the amount of same size colas, as opposed to 1 main cola.

    Good luck

  7. I would not recommend topping autos, anything else including very tall sativas I would go with tying down first, topping second.

  8. The stems get thinner as you re-purpose them to "main stems." So for example, if your main stem was an inch thick before you topped it, the two new stems that grow out of it would probably be 2/3s of an inch think each. The end result would be 4/3's of stem volume, but the individual stems would have to do their own thing, and so would the main plant.

    Cheers,
    Alex

  9. Bend the plant over instead of topping, does the same thing only better. Instead of removing the main cola with topping so the next 2 nodes becomes tops, when you lst/Bend the branch over every node becomes a new top....not just 2. Best thing is you don't loose the main cola. Topping also rwdirects energy from grpwth to heal the damage of tge cut and the associated stress. One of the best things I ever did was stop topping plants. Such a waste of time. I only remove tops to clone. Since ive stopped toppinf my plants fill out faster which results in a shorter veg time. Yeild also improved with low stress training instead of topping.

  10. I top early at 3rd node. I like the colas coming from the soil damn near. I dont have space limitations. I am in too much pain to be training all the time. I also like that most of the bud finishes and isnt like a person who never gets sun[IMG][IMG][IMG]

  11. Here is what it does to growth.
    Side views
    First pic-natural/no topping
    Second-topped plant
    Third-Fimmed plant
    Respective top views 4,5,6

Biggest difference imo is growth rate. The fimmed plant gave me 5 total main budsites as opposed to the natural 1 main budsite. The fimmed and topped plant grew faster overall but took longer to finish because everytime you cut new growth where bud should form eventually, you lose as much time as it took to grow that plant material since it will have to regrow to have more bud sites. Overall well worth it. Shorted bushier plants that produce more overall [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]
