Topping My Girl

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by JDTRanch, Dec 27, 2019.

  1. This is my first grow ever. I chose to grow in hydro. She sprouted in soil and I moved to a small tank. The initial shock made her growth stagnit for a week after. I honestly thought she was not gonna make it. I slowly introduced the flora series to her diet. In 2 days she started showing positive steps. I have moved her tank size 3 times. I put her in the final tank yesterday. As you see her pictured here. I am in week 7 of the grow. I have 9 leafs showing on the top two nodes. I read 5 nodes in several post, but most of those are in soil. My girl is short and squatty. She currently stands about 7-8" 20191226_210542.jpg I want to do it right, that is why I am asking this forum.

I do not know the strain, other than it's a Indica. I had this seed from some cannabis I had earlier this year. She is definitely healthy.

This final tank was dark blue and light was still passing through it slightly. I had some metal tape left over from when I replaced the AC ducts in my house. So I layerd it all over. Definitely no light passing through now. I was also curious if this would help reflect light under the plant. I have started stretching her slowly. I was flexing the stalk 2 days ago before I moved her.

Any info experienced growers can give will be great. Thank you in advance

  2. I dont see how topping is gonna kill it. You didnt tape the lid onto the bucket did ya.

  3. Looks like it's putting out the 6th node right now, if my eyes are seeing correctly. You should be good to top as low as (above) the 3rd node. I topped above the 5th and got way more lower/outer branches than intended, lol. Look up tutorials on mainlining. It's what I wish I would have done when I had the chance. Oh well...next time. Good luck!

  4. Pinch the head off the main stem where the leaves are not yet open and it will make a shrub.
Lower your light to make it short and bushy as well. But when the stretch starts some of the bottom limbs will turn to sucker limbs and need to be trimmed

  6. Update

I topped her, recovery was 2 days. Cleaned her up preparing for flower stage. Recovery 1 day... During all this, I have been stretching her with string, preparing her canopy. Yesterday I finally received my nets.

The first pic is yesterday after putting the net up.

The next two pics are today. I turned the blurple off to check her color. I think she looks good. Now the most important stage begins. Screenshot_20200103-221133_Gallery.jpg Screenshot_20200103-221337_Gallery.jpg Screenshot_20200103-221315_Gallery.jpg

  7. Start of week 2 of flower
Just stretching her. Dropped the GRO in half and increased Bloom 1ml. She is definitely looking good and stretching to the light. I always want to see her real color. I cant seem to smell her.. but my wife says she smells it outside the grow room. Lol 20200113_191807.jpg 20200113_191334.jpg 20200113_191407.jpg

  8. Just wait. Everything you own will stink soon, lol. Everytime I go in the tent and mess around, I walk out sticky and smelly. About eight weeks into flower for me.
