topped plant. should it look like this?

So I topped these two plants a few days ago and it looks like the new growth is coming from the node below where I topped. I am just wondering if this is where the new growth should be. Maybe it's a dumb question but when I watched a time lapse of a topped plant the new growth was on the very top node so this is confusing to me.
