Topped main stem split!! Need help or advice please!

  1. Help! I'm so pissed off I am about to cry! I was tying down the two top stems and it split down the middle, about an inch and a half or so. I hesitated a little, but without thinking I tried to mend it by first tying it up and putting some pressure on it. then I read a little, and decided to put a piece of cloth over the stem so that I don't cut the stem and tie wrap it. Not too tight to where I am going to cut off to circulation. But that's why it kind of looks sloppy, because I didn't think much. My other two trees hermied and this is my only one left. I have to move soon, so I don't have time to Veg or clone anything else. So I am really nervous, i hope she makes. I am just wondering if i did the right thing and how she looks.. Do you think she might make it? Shes on week 3 of flowering.. Might this affect the bud growth?

Thank you guys! It's always best to get some input from fellow cultivators.

You went a bit overkill with the bandaging. No need to stress so much though, I've had the same thing happen to me many times, (usually I just twist tie it gently so its touching again) and it will scab over, or grow back and form a knot there, making it actually much sturdier than it was before. Either way, you can probably take off some of that stuff you have holding it together, as long as its touching it will repair, and if its open it will scab over, but that's not going to kill it or really cause any problems either.

EDIT: just saw the part about bud growth. 3 weeks in you shouldn't really have too much of an issue. Keep all other forms of stress down and you'll still be fine. Technically you accidentally super cropped it, you may be pleasantly surprised by the results.

EDIT 2: Just to ease your mind here's a picture of a plant I grew recently, this is right before I harvested, but basically the same thing happened, only it was because the branches were so heavy it split by itself. Was quite a healthy plant got 3 oz dry and I had split stems all over the plant not just the main one, so I don't think you'll have any trouble.

  3. I am just going to wait a day or two till it starts to heal and then I'll remove the hemp yarn and just leave the tire wrap over the cloth.

I'm not sure if what I am looking at is a stem split wide open, and healed. Or if it's split, healed and closed back up? But great job on the 3 oz's for a stressed tree. I've too also heard that when things like this happen and they recover they tend to have a higher THC potency. And thanks for the reply, I appreciate the advice

Here is what she looks like right now after that incident

  4. I think you'll be fine, from my experience if a branch has been cut too far, it will noticeably wither and die off rather quickly. Usually in that case the next day I look the branches that were too far gone are already hanging limp and the others are growing towards the light recovering fine.

Also what that picture was, was the main stalk on my plant that had broken some time mid flower, I didn't actually see all the splits until I harvested since it was a pretty large plant I had to dig through the branches to take that shot. The darker parts near the top were too far to repair so they have formed a scab over the tissue, but down below looks more recent so where the bits of tissue are sticking out they could mend if given time.

  5. Thanks bud. I have new found hope for my baby! Lol. She looks great right now, every single leaf is preying. Not a single one is dropping. I

  6. I had a hood fall on a 6 ft sour D and damn near broke the whole top off at about week 5 12/12. i taped her up and she finished just fine. might of set her back a week or so. but no real problems. you should be fine.

  7. Wow that's crazy dude.. These suckers sure are resilient to a lot of things. Lucky you didn't burn them too. I'm really iffy about hanging anything over them, and if I do you better bet that I go over the top with securing whatever is hanging. But shit happens.
