Topped, Fimmed Or None?

Discussion in 'Micro Grows' started by KingsChron, Jun 19, 2019.

  1. It’s my first grow, and I’ve been reading a lot about topping, and fimming. I am growing in a BCNL roommate. I have the capacity for 4 plants, but sadly one didn’t make it (RIP). So since I have no experience with any of these methods of training I did nothing to one plant, fimmed another, and topped the final one. It is a micro grow, so I didn’t look into Scrog, but perhaps I could jury rig something next time. Anyways, I’ll post a picture, and you can guess which plant has had what done? Or perhaps some more ideas for training for micro grows!

  2. Since it's your first grow I think you're smart to try topping / fimming vs. no topping. You'll get first hand experience as to what works better for your plants.

Keep in mind that you can also experiment with different training and trimming methods on specific branches of each plant. For example, you can lollipop a lower branch and use LST on another. I'd also recommend super cropping one of the upper branches. Super cropping always makes people nervous the first time they do it, but I absolutely love this method (and it really isn't so scary). SCROG is another favorite method. Give it a try if you have one plant that's much taller than the others. With SCROG most growers will do the whole garden (not individual plants), but it can be done with individual plants using chicken wire or with a PVC frame.

Keep us posted on your progress and final results!

  3. Thank you. I figure the best bet would be to try and see what happens. So far I have noticed a difference in the main growth of different stems. I should have taken into consideration that all 4 plants are different strains. I’m unsure if the plant I topped is meant to be short or if I overwhelmed her.. I’m just wrapping up my 3rd week of flower, so I guess the plan is when harvested and dried I will weigh each plants yield separately and see what the difference is. Then when I figure that out, compare Trichomes, and finally which appeared to have the strongest growth? I’ll show you more recent pictures!
