In terms of effects differences indica vs sativa are pretty much debunked at this point. That's not to say there aren't indicas that make you sleepy and sativas that make you energized but that the inverse of that is also entirely possible and it's not the indica vs sativa that determines that but the cannabinoids, terps, etc. The most significant difference between them is in how they grow. That said the best way is to simply go with your gut on what strain you think you'll enjoy and find what you enjoy through experience.
Get the Crickets and Cicada Puck BC3. These genetics come from Nevils original 1984 Hashplant. Its a cross of Pacific Northwest hashplant x NL1. Then a male was used from this cross, and backcrossed into the PNWHP clone only female. The Puck was a plant found out of Nevils Hashplant seeds, in 1988, and is clone only. The Puck BC3 is a product of getting the Puck cut, and rebreeding it to the NL1, and then breedig it back into the Puck cut, intensifying the Puck genetics. Alot of work went into making this cross, and then testing it before release. It took 3+ years to accomplish. I also recommend the Skunk x Puck BC2. Any of the C&C crosses are pure fire, and you wont go wrong with any of them. The Puck, and PNWHP are 2 of the most sought after of all the Hashplant clones. Puck is also known as Skelly Hashplant.
I do think that nearly all strains these days are hybrids but I'm pretty sure it's even irregardless of that fact
I've been looking for an 100% Indica at various seed companies and there are very few that still carry some of the original strains. And I mean 2 or 3 companies out of the several days of looking at Google search results, that came from every corner of the planet. The original strains are getting harder and harder to find because everyone wanted a strain to be for one problem or another, medically. And others wanted to increase the potency and add flavors. Most strains you find now are hybrids even if they are called Indica or Sativa.
That can be part of it but grow time and structure as well. Indicas are generally shorter and stouter and faster to flower sativas tend to be taller and lankier
