Tool the Band Theory....

Discussion in 'Music genres, Bands and Artists' started by vogy, Jul 9, 2006.

  1. Post written to describe the theoretical possibilties behind Tools last 3 albums. My theory states thus"

I: Tool planned the albums in order to express musically the process and function to which we are part of in the world.

II: The albums were made in this order:
    Aenima- Developement to Life (pre-life)
    Lateralus- Birth, occupance of Life
10.000 days- Like the book of evalations in the Bible, coming of the end of time

III. Tool chose its name because it wanted to act as a tool in expessing the fundamentals of each stage of life.

Anyone else feel this way? Listen to the last song on 10,000 days while baked, this song is intense, it feels like judgement day... such an awe-inspiring feeling, check it out.

  2. ha ha I could kind of see that, but where do salival, undertow, and opiate fit in? APC was just a clever marketing plan in my oppinion... It brought lots of new fans so when they reunited the APC fans would love tool also. meh

  3. dude, i have 10,000 days. so badass. in fact, im gonna listen to it now.

  4. That's a pretty cool theory, I had never thought about it that way, +rep

One thing I am sure of though... Tool KICKS AAAASS

  5. I love tool, and good theory.

  6. slayer sucks!! rawwwwwwwwwww --- e rawwwwwwwwwwwwww!!! slayer!!

  7. who said anything about slayer

  8. LOL i dunno.

Tool is one of my all time fav bands, by far. I listen to all types of music, and normally hip hop when I smoke actually, but I can always blaze to some Tool. Great band, can't wait for them at Lollapalooza.. I couldn't go this year (or any year for that matter) so I'm just gonna' get a quarter and watch 'em perform on TV with some friends: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pw3QFkEDGdM"]YouTube - The Best of Lollapalooza '09 on Fuse TV. 9. yea dude thats pretty crazy haha

tool kicks fuckin ass but i just can't get into APC

  10. But Mike Patton told me that Tool's original name was Theremin Toolbelt...

  11. what about coheed and cambria?

totally different, but i kinda like em: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kmnp3_CyMVg]YouTube - Fuse Interviews Coheed and Cambria at Lollapalooza 09[/ame]

they're on that fuse special tomorrow night at 9... without TOOL. lame.

  12. I only like Tool because of Danny Carey. The music just isn't my type. That's pretty awesome that you put that together though.

  13. 10,000 days has much to do with Maynard's mother being sick for a very long time and her religious beliefs...listen to Wings For Marie

But as for the themes, I don't think you're far off. Look at APC, 13th Step is all about the different phases of addiction.

  14. Yup.

Weak and Powerless is all about addiction to heroin, "dig in search of china white"

I happen to like APC more than Tool.

  15. Fuuck You Slayer ownz!!! and thats a cool theroy but im not 100% on it bein true but nice thinkin. I could have never thought of that... unless i was stoned as shit.

  16. Danny Carey is arguably one of the best drummers to ever live.
    Much respect to Tool.
    :hello:
"Over thinking, over analyzing separates the body from the mind."

  17. An ironic choice of quote for this thread.
I've listened to tool over and over, I think the music is fantastic.

And the alex grey stuff on the albumart is amazing, head over to Alex Grey, and have a look. I really want to go to the temple of sacred mirrors.

EDIT: Those themes are a pretty good in my opinion.

  18. I wasn't really choosing it for the thread, that is one of my all time favorite Tool quotes.

  19. Same here man. There's a few quotes from tool that sum up things nicely. I used to be a major overthinker, massively anxious, and that quote helps.
Kind of pissed me off the first time I heard it, and then it grated at me for a while, and eventually I felt I understood it.

  20. Not 100% if this is true or not, but i remember hearing that Tool uses very complex and sifisticated mathematical equations to write their songs. Anyone know if this is true or not?
