too much light?

  1. As far as growing with HID lights are concerned is it possible to kill a plant by giving it to much light, can i lower my hood down to within7-10 inches of my canopy as long as my hood stays cool and there are no heat issues to burn the plant or does it need to never come closer than 18 inches, i am running a 400w HPS over some seedlings that are about 3 weeks old. the usual temp. is abour 72-74 with 40-50% humidity its on 18/6 and they seem very lively. im just worried if i move it closer it may burn my plants due to the intensity of the light.

    any input is greatly appreciated.

  2. I saw a chart about this. The amount of light and amount of inches a plant should get. Idk, just search it I guess...

  3. A plant can never get to much light...As long as your not burning because of heat id say your fine!

  4. yes, you can overdo it with light. especially when they're young. a 400 watter doesn't put out too much heat. if your hood is vented you can get it pretty close. hold the back of your hand under the light where the canopy will be. if after a minute or so, you're hand is comfortable, then the plants will be too. you need to make sure you have adequate airflow in the plant area. when you're looking at your plants you should see them gently swaying from the airflow. you don't want a hurricane down there. your temps and rh seem good. that will change as the light gets closer so keep your eyes on them.

  5. There are no limitations on light, make it as bright as can be. But there are limitations on heat. More lights = More heat. If you can get the heat out fast you can put as many light as you can.
