Too much light?

  1. I'm going to be setting up a cabinet grow of 3x3 or 4x4. (never done this before). I'm considering getting a 1000W HPS Grow Light Super Sun 2 Reflector SS10 Ballast and using a 1000 Watt Sunmaster Super HPS Plant Grow Lamp with enhanced blue light spectrum.

I had a friend tell me that he successfully get's 1.5 lbs of finished bud from a 1000w light over a 4x4 space with 9 plants.

According to my calculations, it would work out to 8,750 lumens per square foot. Do you think that much light is overkill for that space? Should I go with a smaller light? Would a 1000 watt be detrimental to the plants growth?

  2. You will have to vent the light...if not your problem will be from the heat the light generates...

  3. yes that is overkill.

600w tops for that size. plus a 600 will produce much less heat, cheaper to run and provide more than enough light for a 12ftsq area. if u truely had a 4x4, u could maybe push that many, but i wouldnt with anything less.

i think u 'could' get 1.5lb's out of a 4x4 with 1000w, that = .672g/w/h. gram per watt per harvest.
