I have 3 CFL bulbs. 1 150 and 2 20's. I have a small sproutling going (about 1 week in now) and the two 20's are up near the exhaust fan while the 100 is in the middle of my grow box about 5 inches from my plant. It cool? Also for fans I have an intake and exhaust fan.
Hey. No you don't have too many light if that's what you're asking... First of all the 20w bulbs should be the closest to the plant. A 125w CFL is supposed to be 3-4 cm from the plants and 1 inch = 2.54 centimeters. So that means your CFL is way to far from the plant. It will lose some efficiency. It's a fact that the lumens will only have 1/4 the effect if you double the distance to the light source. Anyways, the light you have should be plenty to get some nice bud from this plant. Keep the light as close as you can to the plant without burning it. It's the heat from the bulb that burns it not the lumens from the bulb.
there is no such thing as "too much light". there are only factors that come along with using alot of light, that could be a "too much" issue. i.e. too high of temps, heat stress, light burn, etc.. but if all these factors are taken into account, adjusted/"dialed in", you can have as much light as you want.
So...I should put the 150 on the top of my box and the two smaller bulbs dangling down near my plant? thanks for the help btw guys.
CFLs have to be near the plant for the light to penetrate. Like inches away. Either elevate the plant with books or something or find a way to bring the lights closer.
