Alright heres my predicament. Earlier this month I had started a grow with a Thai and a bagseed. They were doing great and I was going to flower them outdoors. Due to bad luck they were found and destroyed. All hopes of a grow this season faded. But out of nowhere today seeds from JRS came and now I find my self with 10 NL#5 seeds. I have two things I can do: 1. Veg indoors until mid july then flower. Note this is very risky and could result in bad things happening to me. 2. Grow outdoors all the way. This is the preferred way but I am concerned it will not get big enough to produce a yield I want. Basically I want to know if its fesiable to do an outdoor grow starting now. I know they will be small but I want to know if its even worth it. Also will the extra time in veg for about 20-30 days signifcantly improve yield and is it worth the risk. Im not sure the consequences of being caught growing indoors but Im sure it cant be good. Outdoors I am not worried of being caught. So if you guys can give me your thoughts on what I should do it would be great and would help me make my descision. Thanks for your time.
If it were me I'd go ahead and grow them outdoors. They should finish fine, they just won't have as much veg. time as usual.I would germ. them inside, I've never had much luck just sticking ungerm.'d seeds in the ground. Good luck.
Well I never germ straight in the ground I use the paper towel method and put them in cups. As of now im leaning towards taking the risk. Do you think the extra 20+ days will significantly increase yield? My thinking is they will stretch in flower and still get big but just finish later. Im not really looking for a monster plant but maybe an oz of nice bud of each plant. By no means am I an expert but I find myself pretty well informed. And thanks for the prompt reply.
If by an extra 20+ days, you mean, would starting them at the beginning of june have increased your yield? Most probably, it would. The longer they veg. the better. I have a plant that sprouted in march which is almost 6ft. tall now. I expect it to be one of my heaviest yielders this year. As far as finishing late, they should finish at the same time they normally would, the change in light outside will make them flower just as quick as if you had planted earlier. Plants don't care when they sprout, when nature says it's time to bud they do. If you started them in late July or August they would probably take longer to finish, but starting now, they should finish normally. P. S. I'm no expert either although I've been growing off and on for about 17-18 years. IMHO the best teacher is experience, so get them seeds sprouted and give it a go. Once again, good luck.
The 20+ days I am talking about is vegging indoor. 18/6 lighting would increase growth for the time they are vegging indoors. I was wondering if indoor veg for 20+ days would significantly imrpove yield.
I think the shock of going from indoors to out would cancel out any "extra" veg. time and hurt your yield. You would have to gradually expose them to more sun over time. The outdoor photoperiod is pretty close to 18/6 right now anyway. IMO the sun will veg it better than any lights. Good Luck.
i was just about to post the same question.... i was thinking that it might be too late... ..was also wondering if you could simply plant thtem outdoors in July when the light changes completley and they would auto-flower? even if they arent a strain such as Low Ryder?
They would start flowering shortly after sprouting, but I'm with,iseesmurfs420, the yield would be minimal. Rooted and vegged clones would be the way to go if you wanted to put plants out in july and have a decent yield.
