The plant (bagseed) is still a seedling (week 1) growing outdoors in potting soil. Miracle grow I believe. Haven't used any nutes yet. No idea on the PH. Bugs not suspected. It had been growing fine but yesterday I realized that the patch of sunlight it was in was real small and there was a MUCH larger patch about 20 feet away. So I moved it over there (its still in a pot). Soil felt wet enough, but looked a little compact so I dug my finger around in there a little bit to loosen it up (this also may have caused the problem). And then I poured a small amount of water in there. When I came back today the plant was lying on its side and was all shriveled up. Leaves looked to be maybe a little lighter shade of green than before. Pretty sure a plant in this condition that just grew the second set of leaves has no chance. But I should try to learn from this. Here are a few ideas I had on what may have happened: 1. Overheated. Its sitting in a plastic pot thats black on the inside and of course in black soil. It just got to hot for the little thing and baked the water right out of it. 2. When I dug my finger around in there (I was careful not to get too close to the plant) I snapped a root or disturbed the plant in some other way. What do you guys think?
I think you put it in the sun without enough water. The pot and dirt being black is fine, the plant can handle a lot of heat as long as it has enough water. You should always make sure you water thoroughly, make sure that it soaks the soil and comes out the drainholes in the bottom of the pot. Especally outside, where the sun & wind can combine to really dry pots out fast, you need to make sure it is adequately watered. Poking around in the soil would also probably not hurt the plant, unless you were really grinding around in there.
