I would like to ask two questions;- 1 What is the best way of measuring temperature in a growroom?I have an electronic thermometer which gives me a reading of around 37c 50 cms from my 250 wat hps despite leaving the door open an inch for ventilation.I don't know weather I'm getting an acurate reading.I know people who take outdoor temps do so in the shade and i was wondering weather the brightness of the light may affect my reading.Also would I get a different reading with a mercury thermometer? 2 What sort of fan would best keep the temp down?I dont want to use an extractor fan as I'm trying to keep my wardrobe looking as normal as possible.
you will have to use a fan of some sort, and if it is not an extractor, then it is an induction fan, but with no where to go, your facked, so do this, get a fan , and then some connections to a 4 in dryer vent tubing, and drill a hole 4in in the ceiling, into your attic, or on the side of your house / apartment, and just vent it out side, going into an attic is the best, because your attic is vented, and then the air is in your attic, the smell is reduced greatly, i mean, the intensidty of the smell g/l
I was using alluminium foil but stripped it off to see if it reduced the heat - which it did. At the moment the walls are bare - pine coloured formica type stuff. What wattage/type fan are you using and do you have a vent of some kind?Is your low temp down to the fan alone? I tried a 40w fan and it lowered the temp by about 2 degrees with the door open about an inch.Maybe the hps I'm using is a bad design or something. Will the smell be a problem with 4 plants?
Thanks for that - very informative. I Live in a small place and the only place I can put my setup is in the bedroom. Leaving the wardrobe door open reduces the temp a lot but you don't really want light blareing out at you in the middle of the night when your trying to sleep.I'm thinking of using cfls at night - less temp and I can leave the door open just a crack hopefully.Also holes aren't an option as i need the wardrobe lightproof. Have a seperate ballast which never seems to heat up much anyway.
I won't be keeping a jornal,but no doubt you'll see my postings on here from time to time. Evertythingd going ok at the mo - my 4 plants range from 2cm to about 5cm.two have 7 to 8 leaves.I started them in rockwool starter cubes but I think i left them in there too long and they started going yellow and stopped growing. They've recovered now I've potted them except one which has a yellowish/brownish mark,but new grwth is ok. You live and learn i surpose.
