tomato cages?

  1. At the moment I have tomato cages around my seedlings with plastic bags over them to kind of create a greenhouse affect. I will be taking the bags off shortly as they get bigger, but I was wondering if it would be a good idea to let the plant grow inside the cage to kind of create a SCROG affect. Would this increase my yield any or am I just wasting my time with this idea.

  2. wind make plant strong

  3. yes I know, but too strong winds can snap the stem and its been very windy here lately. So can anyone answer my question?

  4. I have had cages around my plants too. It camoflauges it from people. They think its just think its a dumb old tomato plant. Less likely to be closely investigated, that way. I have two of my plants in wire ring-cage I used it to LDT them.. I weaved them through the gaps and tied them out, however it supported the bottom of the stem when I pulled it down. You have to let the plant get alittle taller than usual but Those two plants are like almost really close to 5 ft and full as hell. I wished my camera was here I'd take a pic so you could see the difference in plants the same age i didn't tie.

  5. Cool, thanks APALMER. I'll do the same. I just wasn't really sure if LST was of any use outdoors since there is so much light. But I guess there is.

  6. i use tomato cages as well. agree with the ideal of hide something in plain site. until the last month, they look like just another 'tomato plant'.

  7. I"m not using the cages for camo. I am growing in the woods and it wouldn't make much sense to see random tomato cages in the woods:p I was just wondering if they were beneficial in the use of LST.

  8. yes, they will work well for LST because support is better than no support.

  9. My brother uses them in the woods. He paints them army camaflauge colors. He uses different colors of greens and tans. It just to hide the shininess of them. I didnt say that anyne had to use them I was just letting the person that made this thread that they could use them for LST when tying them down.

  10. alright, sounds good. They are painted green, so they should be fine camo wise.
