Tolerance or Familiarity?

Discussion in 'Apprentice Marijuana Consumption' started by OldManDave, Nov 23, 2012.

  1. Back 6 months ago when I started MMJ, there were a lot of pleasant "side effects" such as euphoria, laughter, everything being intensely interesting, and so on.

I seem to have lost a lot of those. I'd assumed it was tolerance, but its not like "more" causes those to return. I'm a once-a-day smoker.

I'm guessing this is just tolerance, since I read so much about T-breaks on here. Does a sufficient T-break bring them back? Or does a person wind up "chasing" an experience that's never going to return?

I've never tried MDMA or anything near that hard, but I've read that people who take it have some spectacular experience the first time that they never are able to replicate. So I'm kind of curious if its like that, or if it all comes back after a break.

  2. if you take a long enough t-break they'll come back :) nothing will be as awesome as your first time but you can get fairly close with a long t-break.

  3. bet your buttons it's because you smoke alone. there's no actual difference smoking alone vs with others, just the social atmosphere makes the effects more noticeable.

although i laugh a lot when sober (sometimes to the point where i cry) i don't laugh any more than usual while high. it's different for everyone

  4. Its both. A tbreak can solve both though.

I've taken a few weeks to a month off a few times now, and its like the first time (or better) for me.

  5. I'm a 6'6" guy rounding in at about 260-280. When I take a one week T-Break the next time I smoke I'll be flying!

Next time I smoke will probably be sometime around 4/20/13 though. More important things in life, but I'll be glad because I'mo be on another level.

  6. Guys please don't suggest this guy needs to take a month t-break..
He doesn't. The most he needs is 3 or 4 days to let his receptors settle back into the groove of things. He's only been smoking 6 months, once a day.

A tolerance break will bring back the inital high, the first time you get high after it.
Then the next high is somewhat good, but still not quite the same and so on.

If you're looking to get blitzed again, try edibles. Or perhaps Oils.

  7. What's your usual method of smoking? Amount? Quality?

Um, a 3-4 day break will lower your tolerance, but not as much as a good 2-3 weeks depending on the person. Why is 3-4 days the time he "needs" to get his receptors to settle. Taking a day off can do wonders. Same with 2. The more the better. The max benefit is around 2-3 weeks, but your specific recommendation is no magic number.

And the "next high" can be just as good as long as it isn't only a few hours later. If you take a full tbreak (let's say 2 weeks) then take 2 days, it'll probably be just as good.

Smoking 6 months is also more than enough time to develop a tolerance. You develop a tolerance depending on consumption pretty instantly. Smoking daily for 6 months doesn't build up any more than smoking daily for a year does.

  9. I've heard friends tell me that they go a few days without smoking and when they smoke again it's an amazing experience. These are also my friends who at most take 3 to 4 day breaks. When I go a few days without smoking and smoke again it's exactly the same as if I hadn't take a short break.

Personally I really notice a difference after a month or more. I'm a heavy smoker when I smoke though so that may have some effect. To reach those crazy highs where I can be sitting down and the room seems to be moving around me, you know plain dumb from less than a gram, it takes me a solid month. Only lasts 4 or 5 days but I find it's worth it.

  10. For a once a day smoker its definitely more tolerance than familiarity.

  11. i find its both. However you will notice a more profound effect if you take a week or two off. Also if you smoke in the same place all the time it does have a nulling effect because your so used to being high in that environment, when i smoke in a completely different place and with different people i notice i feel much more high.

  12. Thanks. As some noted, I smoke alone with the exact same routine each time, so there's a loss of novelty for sure.

I skipped yesterday just to see what tonight is like. I doubt one day will make much difference, but if there's any, I'll explore longer ones.
