I've been using nicotine and oranges as a pesticide since I was in middle school growing bag seed. Those were the days. I get orange peels and tobacco then boil separately. I then mix together and dilute until it looks like a light tea. I then spray this on my plants. The best part is that it's pretty great. The orange peels contain limonene which are terpenes also found in cannabis. The limonene also works as a pesticide. The plus part is that they add an extra citrus smell to it. The nicotine on the other hand isn't as great, but it works well and leaves no smell. So you can even use this the day before harvest. I find these more effective because you can use them even during flower without ruining your buds with threatening chemicals. Though I'll admit nicotine is pretty bad, but it's the lesser of two evils. I also got a lot of shit from people when they found out I used nicotine, I laughed at them though because they use tobacco or vape. The Fucking hypocrisy is strong in us humans. So what do you guys think of my home made pesticides? Would you guys have a problem with the way I control pests? Also, what do you guys/ladies use for pest control? i'm a fan of pyrethrin and a lot people arent. all pyrethrin is is the essential oil of specific variety of chrysanthemum. pyrethrin is even endorsed by the usda nop for use in organic production. every state allows its use in food handling, food processing, and food serving eateries. yet, a lot of folks wont use it for whatever reason which usually boils down to ignorance. id be interested in knowing the half life of your mixture. im betting that the eo of orange and the eo of tobacco is very low and i also betting that is very effective. i get it about the nicotine if thats even a real problem but there may be an allergic reaction to it for some people. uvb/c usually destroys eo's in general pretty quickly. i like your idea. it's going into my kit bag for future research. thanks for sharing tue part about the orange peel. that's a good idea. and no phytotoxicity issues or do you spray at lights out?
This is advanced but I would suggest to move this thread to the organics section, theres quite a few organic growers that stay in that section that can definately chime in on this. Good idea!
I usually spray them early morning or early evening. I try not to spray at night because I live in the tropics so the humidity is high. The half life is usually a few days, so I just dry my orange peels and make it whenever I see bugs. The limonene is susceptible to heat and light, so it you keep in a cool dark area. It should be good for 3 or 4 days after that it loses potency. The nicotine half life is also the same. So right once I see those dangerous bugs I make it and spray on my plants every day for 3 days. Also, linalool (another natural pesticide) is also found in citrus fruits and is too a natural terpene found in cannabis. So if you have oranges or lemons their peels are full of limonene and linalool. Sent from my SM-G965F using Grasscity Forum mobile app
I see no problem with chrysanthemum. I mean people drink chrysanthemum tea and have no problems. Unless they're allergic then that's a problem on a personal level. Even for me, the only problems I'd see with my pesticides is if people have allergies to citrus or tobacco. Which in my opinion is pretty rare. Though I would feel bad if someone has an allergic reaction to smoking my bud. I cant imagine someone with severe allergies possibly dying from smoking. That would be a terrible situation. I always ask people if they have any allergies. That's only when serving food though. Not smoking bud. I might start asking for allergies when smoking with people now. All my insect and fungi issues that I have had from the beginning I started to grow indoor went away when I said screw it and bought a dozen 20 inch wind machine fans . I divided the 12 fans between two 4x8 tents and a walk in closet . I sprayed my plants with Humboldt secrets insecticide/fungicide . Then turned the fans on . I haven't sprayed with fungicide insecticide for months now . I rather pay the extra electric bill then having to use anything possibly harmful to me or make my weed taste weird or different . My plants look like they are growing on the coast because of the steady amount of wind blowing on them 24/7. This has proven very positive effects , my plants grow faster and they are healthier . I kick myself in the ass because I fought Fungi and insect issues for 2 years .
How much orange : water ratio? . I'm going to experiment and use just boiled orange and water . On one plant. How would you make it?
