To smoke or not to smoke, that is the question.

  1. Hopefully a few of you guys could help me out with this; I’ve been sober for around 7 months (full blown, 12 step sobriety) and I love it. The spirituality aspect along with just living life as the best human I can be truly appeal to my soul. But lately I’ve been pondering whether or not choosing to start smoking again would ruin everything I’ve worked for, or allow me to continue my journey on a different path.

I guess what I’m trying to say is, have any of you had experience (long term) with 12 step sobriety, or any experience with drug and alcohol addiction but still smoke successfully?

Hopefully this didn’t seem like a long winded rant, thanks.

  2. It’s all on you my brother. If you have an addictive personality or you feel like you can enjoy your life without weed or drugs, I don’t see much of a need for it.

  3. Thanks for your input. While the decision is mine and mine alone, I still like to hear the opinion of others. I guess aside from just smoking recreationally, I’m curious to see if I can use smoking as a means to grow spiritually.

  4. That’s a good wisdom to have my brother. Your decisions are your own, if you choose to smoke. Let it be for your own reasons. If you feel you are ready to open your mind enough to REALLY lose your ego and elevate yourself spiritually to become a better person, then I don’t see a reason to stop yourself. Just remember, everything in moderation. Never let the drugs take away from your real goal.

  5. I had a bad addiction and couldn't smoke personally while I was trying to quit not just physically but mentally especially, it just didnt mix well. Now that I've been clean almost 3 years, I smoke everyday and grow and don't touch anything but the sweet chiba. I just had to let the other go first. Fully. My advice is focus on being clean, you can always pick up smoking when you're ready but staying clean isn't so easy. Whatever you choose I hope it works out for you. Good luck!

  6. Thanks for your input. I’ve been putting in a tremendous amount of work on myself these past 7 months. I’m only beginning to get to a place where I feel comfortable toying with the idea of possibly smoking again. Definitely something I’ll be meditating on.

  7. If you think you can handle it, than more power to you, just remember to be honest with yourself and dont jeapordize your sobriety over it. It's not worth it but if you can keep it seperate then it could definitely be a positive thing.

  8. Weed helped me get away from opiates, alcohol, and cigarettes 4 years ago. Good luck on the new chapter in your life.

  9. For spiritual stuff smoke like once a month but a lot at once.
makes weed a lot more psychedelic

  10. You say you're loving sobriety so with that in mind why take a chance? Perhaps it's time to be satisfied with just loving life. But what the hell, if smoking pot takes you back to wherever you were that got you to 12 stepping then you can always start over with a thirty day chip.

  11. It sounds like you're walking a good path, and maybe you should stay on it. I used to smoke way too much every day, and it both ruined weed for me and delayed progress in my life.

If you can put yourself in a situation or a mindstate where it's limited to one day with long periods around it, I think that's the way to go. I have a blowout once every 3-4 months now where I get unbelievably high, play my favorite video games, eat my favorite snacks n' junk, and then I get back to business after that. Maybe that's a good thing.

  12. Everyone's an addict in their own socially accepted way man i use to be on hard drugs real bad man but now i just smoke weed as i use to smoke hard drugs filled in the gaps with weed instead of something thats kiling me and getting me no where in life, just gotta pick your poison and hopefully its not the literal kinda poison haha

  13. Thank you everyone for your input. I have a promotion coming up at work in a few weeks, and hopefully with that I’ll be able to get my own place in a few months (currently living with 3 roommates who do not smoke). I figure since it’d be rude to start smoking while living with other non smokers, I’ll just wait until I get my own place. If I feel like I still want to start smoking at that point, so be it. Thanks again for the array of responses, stay safe

  14. I have a friend that is into mediation. He says that weed helps him get to "that place".

  15. Anything that is leaned on but not really needed is a "crutch" according to some schools of thought... If you can walk without pain nor need a prop to balance why risk becoming dependent on a crutch? Many of us would like to be free from all crutches... Few in the human condition are however...

Not worth the risk imo, it could rob you of the inner strength that you rediscovered within yourself, a very valuable discovery... Been there, done that but later realized i was leaning on a type of meditation too much... Had to shake that too then over time came back to cannabis...

  16. Save your money and enjoy sobriety and all it brings, life’s trippy enough.

Ya know.. I'm 27 and been smoking since I was 18 (one of the few that started late and I'm thankful for it) and looking back, I don't know how the fuck I could smoke a day here and there. I buy in bulk cause it's cheaper but I also get too comfortable and get crazy and blow through an ounce way too fast, but if I have an eighth I can make it last. It's strange.. It's also strange that some days I don't even want it... Just wish there were more of those days. I love mary, but I don't think she should be abused. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't addicted. I don't need it 24/7, but I end up smoking daily even if it's a hit. I know a lot of people that are incapable of doing this.

I'm trying to find ways to NOT smoke as much. Need ways to keep me motivated to not smoke for at least 2 weeks so I feel one on trying to reduce their habits lol. I'm at the end of my batch and capsule and I don't plan on buying.. Wish me well gang.

To those that don't know me.. I'm a hip hop artist, I have a studio, and I have an enormous amount of potential and that potential really skyrockets when I'm sober... Not sober for a day or 2, but fucking sober... But when I throw a beat on sometimes I just wanna smoke a blunt to it or pack a bong then just go off. I really need to change this habit. It also has me groggy and sometimes leaves me confused when I open my DAW and start mixing lol. I actually tend to get frustrated when this happens cause I shouldn't be confused in the studio...

I also realize that rap music tends to make one wanna smoke a blunt. Artist comes through pre rolled, it's hard to pass. Anybody got a solution? It's hard living this lifestyle :passing-joint:

  18. I don't have a suggestion let alone a solution but... "habits are what keep us stuck" speaking in terms of expanding consciousness and being free from "forms" which include substances... Yet we all have them and if you give up one you will likely need another to replace it.. Meditation may be a better choice but doesn't appeal to all of us...

I meditate so I'm pretty well connected, also do martial arts training for a workout just deciding on whether to quit smoking or not. But I do realize I created this reality of habits I live in and only I can make that decision. I really just need to discipline myself more. It's usually the first week or so that's the worst for me. But this last week I've really started putting more time into my cooking and not being lazy about it as I feel nutrition is very important in keeping us balanced and connected. I'm trying to not smoke as much in the studio.. That's where a majority of my smoke sessions take place.
