To quit college, or not to quit. THAT is the question

  1. Wassup errbody,
So pretty much this has been what's going on my life lately. I live in shitbag Texas, I'm currently in college, getting everything paid for, and having enough scholarship to have about $2,000 left over each semester. One of my best buds (lol :smoke:) is moving to Denver, CO. AKA The Promised Land. He pretty much said FUCK school I'm gonna do what makes me happy, and try and get in the MMJ business. I feel like I know enough people with B.A.'s that are employed in totally different fields than what they have their degree for to see that a degree doesn't necessarily equal a job. What I'm thinking about doing, is completing the Spring, and Summer Semesters, (which will give me a total of about ($4,000 extra) while working, and saving enough money to start a tour of Texas to Denver. I want to live in San Antonio for about 2/3 mo. then move to Houston for about 2/3 mo. (I have family there so no rent :D) then Austin for about 2/3 more months, then finally Denver. What's you guys opinions?? What would y'all do if you were me?? How much money do you think I will have to save up to do something like that?? Oh and yea I plan on getting a job whenever I arrive to a new city lol. Cheers

    All the best,
    Big Diesel

  2. Wtf lol u blazeddd

  3. Always, lol. But I've been thinking about this for a week now. I don't wanna just go the "Go to college, Graduate, Get a job, Get married, Buy a house, Get into debt, Retire at 70, then die" route with my life lol. See what I'm saying?

  4. I totally know where your coming from.

What year are you in college, makes a big difference

  5. yes....

    ...no

  6. Technically I'm still a Freshman, but I'm about to be a sophomore, because I graduated High School with hours.

  7. Maybe so...

  8. Are you actually interested in your major? It sounds like youve got it set, I totally understand the need to chase your dreams but your shits handed to you on a silver platter. I'd stay, always time to move after college, maybe your friend would be settled enough to hook you up with a job.

  9. To be totally honest, my major is nothing more than a tool to get enough money to get my business started. I'm going into physical therapy, because of the fact that they make good money. With enough time, and saving I aspire to open up a gym where lessons on proper lifting as well as nutrition (the most important factor) are taught. A gym where the trainers actually know what they're doing and the science behind it. I really do love my ultimate goal, but as far as my major. No. And I do see what you're saying, but at the same time, there is a chance that I don't wake up tomorrow morning. I don't want to die without ever having lived. Yaknowwhati'msayying??

  10. This is the worst idea I've ever heard

and what exactly are you going to do in denver. grow pot? get a real job and make the big bucks. then you can sit on the roof of your mansion and smoke a fat blunt while you look down at the peasants in the street

  11. get the education man. since its free

Where do you live? I know a physical therapist personally who hates his job.. always working with elderly people I think.. and I don't believe he makes much either. Location impacts this a great deal when it comes to finding jobs too.

  13. Lol. Call me crazy, but I'm a simple kind of person. A big home. A nice car. Fancy clothes. To me it's all kind of silly how people value material so damn much. When I was a kid my parents told me "What's under the Christmas Tree doesn't quite matter as much as who you have around the Christmas Tree." IDK Maybe I'm crazy, but I have TONS of friends and family in each city, and to me I'd rather spend my youth living a simple life with the people I love than work a Physical Therapy job that I'd probably hate. It's not like I can NEVER go back to school after I take a break.

Truth, you are going to waste something most people would kill for just to possibly fulfill a half baked dream with no real goal. Fact, always better to have a degree especially when you're essentially getting paid to go to school. Dunno how you graduated with honors, bro.... You're talking about dying? I understand your concern about your mortality but you probably have a better chance dying going through with this plan then staying in a relatively safe school environment. In conclusion, your plan sounds wack.

  15. I live in THE Fattest/fourth most overpriced tri-city area IN AMERICA. There's PLENTY of people who are in need of physical therapists. As I'm sure you can imagine the combination of Ridiculous hot climate, really fattening Mexican food, and adoration of new technology has caused a lot of health problems in the area.

  16. Let your friend do his shit then jump on with a degree.

  17. See the thing is my grades are high enough to where I know I could leave, come back whenever, and still convince them to pay for all my shit lmao. My school has one of the lowest tuition rates in the state. I have a bunch of friends who are paying for it out of pocket. And what's funny is since I understand that I'm mortal I have no fear of dying, but I do have a fear not making the most out of it while I'm here.

  18. I'VE BEEN SUMMED!

    ARRghGhggggg!!!

    *collapses

you could get transplants and live forever

I would just stay in school.. shit, all expense paid why would you want to work so hard now? you can chill now then take care of all that MMJ business shit after you get your degree.. your degree.. that's something no one can take from you.

You wanna start your own business? If you don't have the financial resources, the ability to use them adequately and a steady stream of profitable business leads then you could easily find yourself with a debt to be repaid for years to come without a degree to fall back on.

I'm in sophomore year of Uni and I can already feel the years of my youth slipping away. I'm younger than most people I associate with, but soon I'll be 20, then 30 then boom my youth is gone.. I'm working so hard on my own just to be able to pay for my own needs and wants (food gas weed, car insurance, lawyer, tickets, ect) without the help of my parents (while living under their roof ofcourse) College is nothing like what they said it would be. Party and hang out they said, you'll get laid every night they said (ok maybe smoking a blunt with a few friends once in a blue moon).

But it's mostly just working to survive then going to school to take classes which don't relate to my career aspirations.

I wish I could just ride out only having to go to school without paying for my own expenses and all the other bullshit expenses of semi-adult hood.

I don't see why you'd want to take the less guaranteed route. You talk about not wanting to get in the work, get into debt, retire, die cycle

But think about it if you venture on with these MMJ business aspirations.. you'll be working just to support yourself.. Why not just stay in school with all inclusive tuition?
