To drain or not to drain

  1. Hey guys, wouldn't mind a little advice on this one:

Just putting together a RDWC system and while googling ive noticed alot of people draining their systems completely every 2-3 weeks. This is something ive never done. I have a 100L reservoir containing premixed and ph balanced nutes which drip feed into the control bucket via a float valve.

My way of thinking is that there wouldnt be any need to replace the old nutes, as for example with a 3 plant system it would be drinking 6 litres a day anyway so in effect over the course of 2-3 weeks it would have been replaced anyway? the only time i actually drain the system and refill is when i switch to flowering.

Naturally i monitor the system overall also, keeping an eye on EC & PH and adjusting accordingly as i understand water evaporates effecting EC and plants drink more water than they use nutes etc

So in short, am i doing it wrong? should i actually be emtpying the system every 2-3 weeks and filling with fresh?

    All thoughts welcome :)
