it's a candlestick you put seven candles in it every Jewish temple has a light which represents God and it is meant to burn continuously - it is against Jewish law and extremely bad luck for the light to go out - the Jews were under siege in the temple and the light only had enough oil to burn for a day - miraculously the light stayed lit for seven days until the end of the siege - that's why the festival is known as Chanukah - it translates into "the festival of lights" and to represent the seven days we light seven candles and celebrate now you know
