*Page 2 Post #28 Is The Start Of My New Setup*

Hey everyone! New to the forum but have been a long time lurker. I’ve done one grow before in the past and had decent results but that was a long time ago so I’ve been reading for the past few weeks to refresh my memory on the whole process. I’m still very new at this and I’m going to see what I can do with what I’ve learned from everybody on the forum but my purpose of this grow journal is to get feedback and suggestions from you all.

I’m starting this one off with just some bag seed. I germ’d them a couple days ago and planted them in jiffy pots yesterday using Miracle Grow Seed Starting soil (I’ve read that this soil is okay to use before you transplant and start Veg Stage.)

They are currently under 12 23w Daylight CFL’s (I only have 4 of them on right now.) and covered in plastic wrap to help keep moist. Hoping to see them sprout up out of the soil in the next day or so!

Please as I said above give me any suggestions you all have or give me some reassurance that I’m on the right track. I hope I am uploading the photos correctly. I plan on keeping this updated regularly so stay tuned!

  2. I'm running CFL for the moment but mines in a closet. They make it really hot. Looks like you have plenty of space. if they have sprouted and it's not cold I wouldn't use the plastic wrap. Could have heat issues and way too much humidity. I could be wrong though.

  3. I was only planning on leaving the plastic wrap on until they sprouted, I just took it off though. It feels pretty cool in the room, it’s a concrete storage room. I don’t know the exact temp.

  4. I’ve lost lots of plants to mold ie over watering so I just avoid heavy humidity. 70 to 75 should be a good temperature. I’d think colder Is better than too hot.

    Update 5/2/18
Both of my girls have broke soil today while I was at work. I started the germ process on a couple more seeds because I’d like to have atleast 4 plants going. I’m kind of buying supplies as I go along but I’m excited with what I have so far.

  6. Is the soil I’m using okay for now? I plan on getting an organic soil for when I transplant. Still having my worries about the Miricale Grow.

  7. I would check out what's in your soil and if you feel good about it go with it. I do suggest Coco coir and perlite only because the drainage is amazing. It's also really cheap compared to other organic soils. I'm using Burpee Garden Coir. It's $4.00 for 8 quarts. It gets washed with fresh water several times before being bagged up. Very little salt in this product. Just worry more about overwatering more at this point than anything.

    Update 5/5/18
There’s not much to talk about today. My first two plants seem to be looking good, watering them pretty much every other day right now. The soil seems to get dry very quickly. I also started 3 new girls and are currently waiting for them to sprout. I’m going to keep the plastic wrap on them until they sprout due to the soil getting dry so quickly but I will take it off once they do.

    Update 5/7/18
Well 2 of the 3 seeds I germ’d have sprouted, still waiting on the 3rd and hoping she pops up. I do have some questions about 2 of my plants. My oldest (6 days old) seems to be growing just fine, however it looks as if her leaves are kind of drooping and the ends have a very slight yellowish tint. Anything to be worried about? I don’t think she’s thirsty, just watered yesterday.

My 2nd plant in question is the youngest of the batch. She sprouted yesterday and hasn’t showed any progress whatsoever. Kind of funny looking.. I don’t know what would cause this.

My other 2 girls look just fine to me. Sorry for the slow start or not being very intesesting. I’m hoping for some exciting things to happen so I get some more reply’s and feedback. Thanks for looking!

  10. Do my plants look normal for being 6 days old? I’m a little worried due to recent slow growth. The leaves curling downward and yellowing slightly have me worried as well. Any help would be appreciated.

  11. Update 5/8/18
Growth seems to have slowed down quite a bit, not much difference from the last pictures I posted. My main reason for this update is to try and get some suggestions for my concerns I’ve posted up above. Also, I went back through my previous posted and numbered each plant so it’s easier for you all to see the progress I’ve them individually as well as refer to them when replying. Here are the pictures from today.

As I was taking these pictures I noticed a bug on one of the jiffy pots. Looked almost like a lady bug except it was maybe half the size and was tan with some brown spots. I’m going to be building my grow tent in the next couple of days so hopefully I will be able to control the environment a little better and keep things like this out. Any ideas on what this is and if it’s harmful?

    Update 5/9/18
All my girls seem to be looking better. I gave up on the one that haven’t sprouted yet, it had been like 5 days and nothing. Plant #1 and #2 look like they’re beginning to grow their first set of 3 fingered leaves, when is a good time to turn the lights to 18/6 or 20/4? I put some more soil in the pots to cover up to the first set of leaves. I’m going to be building my grow tent tomorrow, I will post pictures after I am finished!

Plant #1 - Still some yellowing at the tips of the leaves but she’s looking a little better. Not curled up quite as much.

Plant #4 - She’s trying her hardest to do something I guess..

    Update 5/10/18
Here’s the tent I just built. I used 3/4” PVC pipe and wrapped it in Mylar. How’s it look? Also what’s the next stage of growth I should expect? When do I transplant or flip the lights to a different light cycle?

  14. Anyone have any suggestions or comments?

  15. Ditch the marical grow soil you have
    Buy a t5 for veg
Roots organic nutes.......fox farm soil.....fabric pots you wont be dissapointed.....growing has an initial investment thats usually not cheep but....in the long run it pays for its self trial and error man

  16. Hey eastcoast,

Would I be alright just using a different soil for when I transplant? Should I flush the plants now before I transplant to try and get some of the pre-ferts out? I’ve been planning on adding more lights, you’re saying use a T5 in combination with the CFL’s I have now correct?

  17. I don’t know what the humidity is like and how damp those little pots stay but i ditched those a while back due to the mold they can generate. Just a suggestion but otherwise keep rocking on

  18. I was thinking about that because they seem to dry out really quickly. I don’t think I’ll be using them again in the future.

  20. Update 5/14/18
My girls are over a week old now and have been through some hard times. Yesterday I had to work all day and I wasn’t able to vent out the room like I normally do so I think the heat might have got to them. When I got home they were really thirsty so I gave them a good watering and then set my timer to 18/6. I’m hoping they’re able to bounce back in the next couple of days, looks as if the bottom leaves were the only ones affected by it and the new growth looks good.
