Tincture with Shatter; Alcohol vs MCT

Discussion in 'Weed Edibles' started by Shatterornotshatter, Aug 6, 2017.

  1. Hey people,

The Idea: I am planning on making a tincture out of 5 g 70% shatter. Later, I will use some parts of the tincture as a spray for sublingual applications and the rest will be used in a dropper bottle to mix with drinks.

The Procedure: First, I will decarb the shatter and then mix it up with the carrier.

The Question: As a carrier I could either use liquid MCT coconut oil (+ lecithin) or everclear alcohol (+ lecithin).
I heard everclear is good for washing the THC (ala RSO) but since I will dissolve the shatter completely in the carrier, are there any benefits from using everclear instead of MCT?

Thanks for your help & have a nice day!

  2. I think the Everclear would mix better in drinks. PsychedelicSam in the edibles section- Another Tincture thread- is the expert on tinctures. Lately the thread has gone toward experiments with sprays. Perhaps PSam will answer here, he usually pops in on tincture questions. He would be better able to advise you on carriers. The good thing is you have a good amount of concentrate and can do some of each to see which you prefer. Good luck, mate. Have fun!

  3. If you leave all the shatter in the finished product, then it doesn't matter what carrier you use, because you'll be getting 100% of the cannabinoids anyway. Use whatever is easier to make and/or more convenient to use. Consider using half to make oil, and half to make alcohol tincture, because both are very useful.

  4. It really depends on you and what you want. If you want to use it as a sublingual then I suggest the alcohol because it will take effect faster than the MCT. You do NOT want to use lecithin with the alcohol tincture, only with lipids like oils and butter.

The alcohol will take effect faster but doesn't last as long as the oil. The oil may take a couple of hours for onset then it provides deep and lasting effects. As Wild Bill said above, making some of both would be a good idea because each is beneficial. :)
