Tincture potency concerns

    Hello y'all,
    Wondering if I can get some help. I'm worried about the potency of the tincture I am making.

    I did the QWET method, currently the tincture is on top of a rag in a crockpot with water at a steady 124 F. (doesn't seem to go any higher)
    The evaporation process is taking a while. I am concern that I will lose potency by leaving it in the crockpot for 24 hours +

    Will I lose potency by doing this. Any info is appreciated.

    The more you reduce the higher the ratio of water gets and even the low percentage in 190 proof will eventually cause the tars and oils to precipitate out of solution forming clumps of tar and droplets of Oil.

    I prefer to make as potent a tincture as possible and use it in that state and only reduce if I'm going all the way down to FECO and no you won't lose potency. Excessive processing will degrade the oil and convert some THC into CBN and make it sleeper oil.

    Hi! I like to make my tincture as strong as possible too. The downside of tincture is that it has a saturation point - if you concentrate more, you will reduce the bioavailability of the oil. For example: if you dissolve 1gram of rso in 30ml of alcohol and you take it sublingual, it won’t leave any amount of oils behind - everything is absorbed with the alcohol as alcohol is the carrier. If you dissolve 2grams in 30ml, you will feel a thin sticky layer of oil behind - you will digest it anyway but without carrier making it much less bioavailabale. You can dissolve up to 1gram of rso in 30 ml of 95% alcohol or use 10grams of weed and finally reduce to 30ml.

    how do you make your tincture if I might ask?

    I made two batches both at 14g of unk mid bud to 8 fl oz of everclear.

    The first one was with QWET method, using heat to evaporate the alcohol. I got worried so I let the rest evaporate naturally in a pyrex dish, but I evaporated too much alcohol. I tried to save the rest by adding a bit of everclear. Some of those dark oil blobs got stuck to the bottom of the dropper and the rest is on the pyrex dish.

    The second batch, I added the 14g and the 8 fl oz to a mason jar and left it in the freezer for 2 weeks, shaking everyday. I used cheese cloth and coffee filters to separate the herbs. This one was reduced to about 100ML no heat.

    I tried to take it sublingually but it burned quite a bit. I did notice that residue sticks to the plastic when I add it to a drink. I also noticed residue spots left behind on the drinking glass.

    For my tincture I powderized the bud and can wash 2oz. of bud in 8oz of alcohol.,and after straining and filtering I have 4-5 oz. of tincture that is about 45-50mg per squeeze of the dropper.,no need for reducing.,Worksallgood.,

    I am using 200 proof ethanol and can reduce the tincture to FECO without any problem with water in the mix.,.
    As stated above.,you can only go so far before the alcohol/ ethanol becomes too saturated and you will have an "oil w/ alcohol " solution instead of a true tincture.,and this leads to the separation of the oil from the rest of the solution if there is any water in it .,

    I tried a few things differently the last batch, NO HEAT & letting it evaporate overnight to lower the alcohol proof & help lower the ethanol taste (imo it works). A deep freezer comes in handy as I freeze the ethanol, the weed, the jars, everything. That green dragon color is excellent & crystal clear, the taste not bad. ! oz weed & 6 oz ethanol. 1 squeeze gets rid of my pain but no buzz, 3 squeezes & I sleep well. :metal: Bong appetit.

    Currently I have very good results with RxCE method. 1ml of RSO to 30ml of ethanol... 1 dropper and even my huge tolerance is not enough to keep me sober.
